Asus rog g14 Asio4All troubles (solved)

Hi everyone, I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I am currently sitting in front of a brand new Asus rog g14 Laptop (model GA401II), and I`m having a lot of trouble setting up asio4all to work with the internal speakers. I tested in both Bitwig Studio and Reaper, so I`m pretty sure the problems are not related to a specific DAW. As soon as I first opened asio4all, I noticed the laptop seems to have a multitude of different speakers, of which I can only ever select one pair. Audio playback is plagued by crackles and dropouts, unless I adjust the buffersize to over 2000 samples, which is pretty ridiculous considering this was one of the fastest Laptops of 2020. To make matters even stranger, the headphone jack produces absolutely no crackles or dropouts even at 512 samples, so only the internal speakers seem to be affected. Changing the samplerate is also a complete nightmare and usually results in no sound playing at all. I also tried the preinstalled realtek asio drivers, but those show similar problems.

My personal theory is, that asio4all has trouble recognizing the internal subwoofers and tweeters of the Laptop, which is causing the issue. Or maybe the realtek audiodriver is somehow interfering. I wanted to ask if anyone here has managed to get the internal speakers running on this particular laptop model, or if anyone has run into similar issues with asio4all.

If you are running internal audio chip, the routing and processing might be different for speakers and headphone jack. There also might be additional processing using APO in the sound devices themselves. This is very usual in these kind of gaming laptops, they use WavesMaxx or Dolby or something like that... those need to be thrown away or buy a proper audiocard like RME USB. Anyway, the machine may or may not be good for audio work as it is (usual thing with laptops) - check out DPC Latency with Latencymon.

I have a G14. Initially I had problems with it, similar to what you were finding... on both Windows and Linux......I ended up getting Asus to have a look at it just to see what they said....haha...(They just reinstalled windows and threw on ASIO4ALL)

To cut a long story short- Everything is OK now.... Bitwig with Jack works fine on Linux (I was running 256 samples and latency was usually under 2ms)... Ableton 11 works fine on windows

I'm using Focusrite ASIO drivers - however it also works fine using the FL studio ASIO wrapper when I'm out and about on battery (like now)......

As a test for you now I opened up 5 Ableton VST's with numerous sequencers and audio effects (4x collision and 1x Analog) + 20 instances of Serum playing a C3 on the preset 'beating pad' with a buffer size of 512 samples @ 44100 whilst on battery. Ableton is showing an average CPU usage of 32%.

IF you have any questions let me know..... I recommend reinstalling windows and just letting windows update take care of all the drivers, and use FLASIO over ASIO4ALL if you don't have an external soundcard

Sorry for the stupid question, but, wouldn't it have been possible to get an USB audio interface as well? ASIO4ALL is a rather make-shift solution, if you really have no other choice but to use your internal sound card. It takes more CPU as well. I wouldn't work with it, only if I really had to.

Thanks everyone for the detailed replies, I finally got my setup working. Reinstalling windows didn´t help, since the preinstalled drivers and software didn´t get deleted, even after I tried wiping the hard drive. But the fl studio asio driver did the trick! I have absolutely no idea why, but it works flawlessly, so I´m not going to question Image-Lines arcane programming.

If anyone else runs into similar issues, just download the fl-studio demo and try using the included asio driver in your DAW of choice. Thanks again for the quick help!!
