I was up against a "big name" for a show once. I actually got it due to probably being less expensive and by having more experience with the kind of scoring they needed. Yeah, that - expense - may have been part of it. It was kind of an ambient project, something with dolphins iirc.
This was way back, ca '85. I do think Silvestri was already somewhat known, Back to the Future had hit.
