Hi,

My current PC is running Win10 and i7-6700 and the boot disk is samsung sata ssd 1T with 3-4 internal Toshiba SATA 2T hds.

Simply put, I'd like to upgrade the Mobo, CPU, RAM and display card and PSU. But my main concern is I don't want to reinstall the OS, all my VSTs and DAWs. So, please tell me is it true that if I stay with Intel CPU (say intel i9-10900k), I don't need to reinstall the OS (just with the MOBO drivers upgrade). But if I go for AMD, I need to re-install OS? Appreciate you guys provide your advices.

Cheers!

Buy the system that you really want, then try to put your SSD as the main drive and see what happens! It might be able to boot into Windows (maybe Windows 10 is smarter now). Be patient though till Windows recognise all the components and install the basic drivers. Then if you can boot into Windows, install all the new drivers for the new motherboard.

The only thing is you need is to reactivate Windows 10. You need to try to login in your Windows account (whatever it is). If your Windows is OEM, then try your luck (contact Microsoft support and tell them it is the same computer, but you need it to upgrade and you have deactivated Windows in the last one, which you should do before installing the new motherboard + CPU ..etc). If you have non OEM Windows DVD or usb, just insert it when you try to activate Windows (keep your PC online all the times).

I'm personally going to do the same. I have AMD system though, but it is the same process. I will deactivate Windows (i have OEM) and try my luck with the new motherboard + CPU. I will try Microsoft support and if they refuse, I will buy another Windows DVD (this time not OEM, so I can upgrade in the future without any problem).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49 and some software instruments / synths.

Before moving the drive to the new PC, check the video at 01:07 and
make sure to have to download the LAN driver and if it is AMD, the chipset driver.
I also recommend to download the GPU driver and remove the current one with DDU.
