What is your favourite guitar riff and why? Mine is the riff in Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode which was written By Martin Gore of D.M. He said he was inspired to write the song after reading a book called Elvis and me by Priscilla Presley in which she referred to Elvis as her own personal Jesus. The reasons I have put it as my favourite as oppose to say 'I wanna break free' by Queen which is a popular choice amongst others, is that it is so catchy. I remember D.M's appearance on Jools Holland live a couple of years back and just loved it so much, hard to believe D.M have been around for over forty years and never had a number one hit. Anyway here is the live performance they did live on the Jools Holland show a couple of years back, actually probably less than 2 years ago.
Why the hell did I come back to this God forsaken forum?

the riff (if that is even called a riff) that comes at about 6:42, right after the guitar solo and just before robert sings "and as we wind on down the road"
it's my favourite guitar "riff" because it seems so right, to me, to be placed at that spot
it's kind of a song composer thing?

i cannot abide zappa, but i am listening to it anyway while sitting here tying to think of a quick way of saying i;ll do it because jancivil is so outrageously cool it is ridiculous. sorry, this is out of nowhere, but we got into it one time because i said something shitty, and you came at me in my inbox. i decided i didn't feel like continuing to be shitty and the way you handled the whole thing was so impressive that i didn't know what to do with myself. i've never seen another person besides myself with the ability to get into it, and then out of it again that quickly, like turning on a dime. and since then i always wanted to think of a good way to say 'you are so f**king cool, i can hardly believe it'
anyway, time ran out on the song. guess it was good, interesting choice for a favorite... and i'll be off!

my favorite guitar riff? The first one, be it of a song or a show. Why? Because I got plenty more to play yet to come

Thin Lizzy - Warriors [Live and Dangerous LP]
All the riffs in this track about Jimi Hendrix. Because they're cool. Swaggering space age hard rock.
My heart is ruled by Venus and my head by Mars.
There are too many songs with great riffs to limit myself to just one.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
