I searched the internet for the "piano roll equivalent" of staff paper (similar to the many "download and print" PDF files with the Grand Staff), but I could not really find anything resembling what I was looking for (perhaps folks think the very notion is not practical).
Anyway, I thought it would be neat to try writing out melodies on a piano roll, so I took a stab at creating a PDF with two pages of blank Piano Roll Notation: 16 bars per page (4 rows of 4 bars) with 16 squares per bar and each "system" covering a range from A2 through D6. I am wondering if notating with colored pencils/pens/markers/crayons is the way to go with staff paper of this type.
If anyone wants to check out for themselves, the piano roll staff paper I created, they may download the attached ZIP of the PDF file:

Not sure what this will be used for, but if it works somehow for you... good, I guess.

well, you'll end up stuck at a particular (horizontal) time scale on paper. A piano roll without the ability to zoom is really just a slightly fancy step sequencer - which, yeah, can actually be a fun/surprising way to write, but why not skip the middle man and go straight to your DAW?

nearly every bit of my composing has been in a piano roll, for nearly two decades.
I still do not get a sense of the vertical harmony or sonority looking at it, where notation provides an instant reveal.
(This is not a music theory question, I started to write a not-real-short article about my use of piano roll FFS)
