I was surprised to get these new versions for free and SSL 360 works without the hardware too, very nice!
wow, I really didn't think 360 would work without the hardware but as you say, yes it does.

This was an extremely nice surprise. I wonder whether they will overhaul some of the other plugins, I have X Comp and Saturator too.

hmm, one thing I've noticed - the channel strip v2 isn't loading the VST3 presets I created in the old version.

I created a test preset in V2, went to the folder, copied across my old presets into the new folder but V2 is only seeing the new test preset.

Can anyone else confirm?

These models seem very different. I'm not sure you should be trying to share presets across them. Even if they did work, they might sound very different.

What's the benefit of the software without the hardware? I'm not getting it.

360 gives you a view of all your channels in one go without having to open various channel instances in your DAW. Changes you make in the SSL mixer window are reflected in those in your DAW.

I heard that the SSL 360 mixing board works like a virtual SSL console. If any producers (not mixing engineers) have tried that to be useful, pls let me know. I'm wondering if it's worth installing/using in that workflow, or just good old DAW mixer works fine.

see my reply above? You can see all the channels like on a desk rather than having to go into the channel on your DAW, open the plugin, go to the next channel, open the plugin for that. You simply have it all in a single window.

At the heart of the UC1 is the SSL 360° Plug-in Mixer, allowing users to access and control all of their Channel Strips and Bus Compressors in one virtual console overview, offering a true console-like approach to mixing-in-the-box.

So I take it the 360 mixer depends on how many instances of the ssl eq/compressor you want to load in your daw and the cpu load still reflects that if that makes sense. In other words, the UCI isn't acting as some sort of UAD style hardware that can take a load off your daw. Correct?

Have they overhauled the DSP in the plugins? Their site is bad enough on desktop but I’m on mobile right now and it’s even harder to find my way around.

I’ll be very happy to try this out when I get home from work. Would not have expected SSL of all companies to give a free ver. 2 update.

Yes, they are different to v6 and the strip eq has been decramped. Oversampling options also added to the bus comp.

It's a pretty significant update. The Bus Comp sounds much better (tighter, but in a good way), the Channel Strip EQ looks like it wasn't just decramped but straight up rewritten. The E-channel setting on the EQ adds harmonics that didn't exist on the prior version. It's a big improvement all-around IMO.

I wasn't expecting a free update from SSL either, but kudos to them. Some companies take care of their users and earn goodwill.
