Closest plugin to Moog Matriarch Delay or Moogerfooger)?

Has anyone got any input on which software plugin might be the best substitute for the Stereo/Ping Pong Delay on the Matriarch (or the Moogerfooger MF-104M)?

I had Echoboy and Valhalla Delay as well previously but got rid off both... Valhalla has BBD but was very far away from what Moog Analog Delay is (actually Tape mode got me closer with my settings).

Anything better than those two? Thank you.

Hey, you’ve probably got your answer already but as an owner of the Matriarch, the closest thing in software to its delay is The U-he Color Copy IMHO. If you dial it in on the darker side, you can get 95% of what the matriarch gives you (minus the modulation possibilities).

edit: nevermind, was thinking of the Moogerfooger filter pedal not the delay pedal.

ColourCopy or ValhallaDelay in BBDuck mode, which is way less dark than DM-2 inspired BBD mode.

I spent a few hours jamming with the Matriarch at a friend’s house. Great synth. Great sounding Delay. Definitely on the wish list now.

Fuse Audio Labs’ Bucket 500 is possibly another option? I didn’t try the Matriarch (…yet!), but I own a MF-104M (which is mono by the way, so you would need two and some patch cables to get stereo/ping pong) and the Bucket 500 has a “similar” tone (although it’s cleaner and doesn’t offer the same modulation and patching options of the MF-104M), it sounds like BBD to me. I also like the on board filter, it’s very handy (I’d need to patch one in the feedback loop of my MF-104M to get certain results). Maybe it’s worth a try, at least for “vanilla” results (the MF-104M has a feedback loop insert jack, so you can add something like a phaser or a filter controlled by a lfo on the repeats… you get the idea…)

Also, try adding some kind of mild (or not so mild, depending on what you’re after) full band saturation, possibly one with a slow slew rate (= something that reduces the high frequencies) before hitting the bbd delay plugin, if it’s too clean…

Cherry Audio RackFX and VM 900 modules recreate those. In the end Moog recycled his creations into stomp boxes and called the line MoogerFooger…

A bit of a late response but which mode on Color Copy would you use?

what about the moogerfooger?

It doesn’t do ping pong and I really didn’t like the tiny GUI. The real one looks beautiful but on screen something more modern would have been more inviting.

It doesn't do ping pong? I think if you flip it around there is an option to do so, or am I misremembering.
Let me go check. Yes it does.

But yeah with you on the tiny GUI. Now that they have released them for ios, ipad, I am hoping that gui enlargement comes next.

Holy sh!t man. I would have never found about the flip. Thanks for that

Most welcome.
All of them have flips that allow further customization of behaviour.

That’s why I prefer ‘analogue style’ GUIs where nothing is hidden. Though it is possible that I am the only man in the Universe who hasn’t seen the option.

Gonna give it a spin and see how it holds up vs Colour Copy. The latter definitely wins in the appealing GUI category but the sound will be the dominant deciding factor.

I love love u-he instruments, not a fan of their effects alas.. always find them too complicated to use (seems you are like me, don't really do the rtfm thing, I open the gui and start to fiddle, if it makes sense to me, I use it often if not... nope..)
, and not enough grit, like my soundtoys, uad and now moog stuff.

Audiority's effect plugins over the last year or so have really leveled up, too.
