what is it sampler multi sampler Ai synth rompler or? what exact technology?
It is free to try, so you can decide for yourself.

I would suggest that it is a multi sample player only for now, so it probably fits the ROMpler definition best at this time. They announced a plan to release user loadable samples next year, so if that happens it could be considered a sampler.

It can load four sample parts in a preset, and do some morphing between parts 1 & 2, and/or 3 & 4. Plus there is apparently some type of proprietary re-synthesis going on under the hood, but the exact details are only hinted at.

I have the Juniper 8 (standard edition) and I love it. It's one of the very best sounding sampled instruments that I have played/heard. I hope we get a CS80 instrument at some point.

They made a Soundpaint instrument out of this Nicolas Bras thing. It's amazing.

How does it sound in comparison to something like arturia's J8?

I think it sounds more true to life - fuller, richer, thicker, warmer, more analog - but a bit more rigid since it is using samples. Keep in mind that I have the Standard edition, so it might sound a bit less detailed than the UDS edition. To me, it sounds about on par with recent UVI libraries in some ways, but warmer and more vintage. I say this because to my ears, while UVI libraries sound great, they tend to clean up the sound of vintage synths that they sample to make them sound more modern and "hi-def."

In some ways, I think Juniper 8 is more true to vintage than the UVI stuff. Juniper 8 UDS is $80 while the standard edition is $30, much cheaper than UVI JP Legacy ($199). Regardless of the price Juniper 8 is selling, I think it sounds amazing but the fact that we can buy it for as little as $30 is a fantastic deal. It's by far the most democratic way to own the Jupiter 8 sound and it's also one of the very best sounding and cheapest compared to U-he Diva, Roland Cloud Jupiter 8 Lifetime key, Arturia JUP-8V, UVI JP Legacy etc...

Arturia's Jup-8 is not sampled, it is modeled, so that's not really a fair comparison. For other sampled emulations, try instead the IK Syntronik J-8, or maybe the UVI JP Legacy Saturn 8.

The question inevitably comes down to which you prefer, a sampled or modeled instrument?

I have the full Arturia and Syntronik collections, and like both for their sounds. I haven't really checked out what Soundpaint has done with vintage synths, as I already have plenty of synths. For Soundpaint, my personal preference would be for more organic and natural acoustic based sounds, rather than more synthesizers.

Does Soundpaint do multi out? so I could set this up in a drum rack in Ableton?
I can't find anything to suggest it does but thought I would ask.

Soundpaint appears to only have one L/R stereo audio output.

It’s not ideal for drums yet as it doesn’t support choke groups either, but it is being pretty actively developed so hopefully it will get better at drum things. Sound wise though, the 808 and 522 are top notch.

Thanks, I asked them and they said I would have to use multiple instances if I wanted multi out and that they may add it in the future if its requested enough.

One of the things that I've noticed with Soundpaint is that their devs are really active in their Discord community. It's a small team, so that's surprising and very cool!

I'd really like to see some dynamic tuning options. Preferably via MTS-ESP or via MPE.
