Let It Be was my first purchased LP. I was 12, and got 10 bucks for graduating grade 6. It was the boxed version with the flimsy picture book of the sessions.

Two years earlier...my family was still together, somewhat, we were in our house in the burbs, my brother was still living with us. I was home from school for lunch and just going out the door to get back, when my brother called me into his room, shoved his headphones at me and said "listen to this! It's the new Beatles album!" He was 20, just home from the army. So, he plays Let It Be for me, and as I started to take the headphones off Billy Preston's organ and George's solo kicked in and blew my head off.
That is one of my few good memories of said fuckhead. Over 51 years ago, now.
My musical tastes were/are dictated by the echoes of a past wherein I worshipped my older brother, even though he turned into a right fuckhead and we were estranged when he got older. Too late. I'll love the music that I heard playing in his bedroom beside mine, forever.

I remember Court of the Crimson King from the 8th grade, someone I knew had an older brother who was a 'head'.
Particularly gassed by 21st C. Schizoid Man, incredible. My mother bought it for me for Xmas, I guess 1970.
I acquired subsequent Crimson albums as they came out, I do remember getting Red in like '75.

Bought Sgt Pepper in '67, coz it was The Beatles.
2nd Album was Days Of Future Past, coz I liked Nights In White Satin (I had the single) and coz I liked the cover.
I think my 3rd album was Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - because I liked See Emily Play.
Next 2 years saw albums from The Nice, King Crimson, more Moody Blues, more Beatles... And the Bee Gees. :o
