white noise

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I can't think of anything like this in analogue that can't be done in digital.

TL;DR
In analogue there aren't as many dynamic processing choices as there are in digital (circuitry vs code, code is significantly more versatile). From what I have seen with analogue there is basically only band limiting, amplitude change, delay, and analogue distortion characteristics, broadly speaking. That's why with analogue, plates and springs and similar mechanical devices are used because analogue circuitry can't effectively do some of those types of processing (eg. reverb). Any techniques in digital that are constrained to the same analogue processing categories can be done in analogue.
