Hello. So, what is the best Daw for the film scoring on Windows? I am owner of Ableton and done one film in Ableton, but honestly I don't like the process so much... I was purchased Cubase but they have issues on 4k displays. Overall like Cubase a lot ( Time warp tool, Video follow mode, Disable tracks and chord track are so powerful for the film scoring)... Thinking about Reaper.. don't like the interface honestly... but don't know... So, your thoughts?

Lots of films scored in Cubase. Stick to Cubase and work out whatever issues arise. You will not find better for scoring.

Thanks for your answer. Yeah, many film composer in Cubase or Logic

Done this in ableton, studio one, logic and reaper. My vote is for logic on mac, and by extension cubase on windows, if you like its feel. I find reaper pretty ghastly for music composition. If you hated cubase's feel, then I'd be tempted to tough it out with ableton since you're presumably fast with it.

For straight sound editing/design to picture, Reaper's functionality shines through despite its interface.

i wouldnt say its worth switching from ableton to S1 for film. The very old school composers often used digital performer, but i'd be surprised if the transition is still worth it.

Digital Performer, of course.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Ableton is fast yeah, and I am already done one film with it, but it's not so easy and don't think that film scoring is top feature in Ableton... So Cubase then.... And I am already purchased it

Exactly... you already purchased Cubase. Just dig into it and learn it. There is nothing better for scoring.

Honestly I am already learned it ) just graphic issues on 4k confused me little. Overall it's a really cool DAW

Vangelis didn't use Cubase ;-).

i wonder how you could directly recreate this workflow digitally, without resorting to hardware.

you'd need an audio only daw that could sync to video and to midi sync to external sequencers, to act as the digital tape recorder

you'd want the mixer of the daw to be easily automatable with a control surface, so you can stay mostly hands-on.

a second daw to act as as synth & sequencer rack. The effects would be mostly printed as you record them.

sounds fun

Check DaVinci Resolve for that ;-)

sounds interesting, but no rewire. How would you sync it to an external sequencer, do you use midi out/timecode? Have you tried this, is it working for you?

Cubase Pro or Logic Pro. Not the lower tier versions of Cubase though, since they lack some crucial features (in particular: Time Warp).

I am on Windows now... So Cubase then. And, yeah, time warp tool and disables tracks are so great in Cubase
