It's a pity Antares had to alienate customers by going down the subscription path. Subscription devalues a product, especially software. Most people prefer to spend a lot of money on something if they know that:
1. It's a quality tool they create things with.
2. They own it!
Personally I could see myself using this instrument but why would I add to my tally of monthly bills? I think most people hate subscriptions for that reason

Exactly as I said on gearspace.. I don't need all the other bundled stuff, I've got what I need.. all I want is to buy this and to not have ongoing costs.
I can only assume our voices will lost in the hype and noise, and quite honestly, Antares don't care. I'm going to predict that the Antares Support account won't be a "Hi, this is Zephram at Antares. We understand our new model of selling to you isn't going down too well, so we are now looking at the possibility of selling these items individually. We recognise these subscription models aren't favourable to many of our customers, and we have convinced our investors and shareholders they don't need to make as much money as they do (and they make a lot!), and we will better plan our research and development to fit within the constraints of our new limited budget. Thank you for making us aware of our blundering marketing error and we look forward to offering permanent licenses for all our products in the coming weeks. And we'll go back to iLok because... I don't know what we were thinking; it seemed like a good idea at the time.. the codemeter guy did a really convincing speech.. and brought some lovely wine.. Plus we just couldn't find away to get the subscription thing to work on the iLok."
It will be anonymous representative well trained in PR and probably disaster management as well. And if that's all they're going to offer, should they even bother?

Its obviously not a standard thread where people can share opinions because every comment that criticises antares gets nuked.

Of course they are. Unless someone with a name and a personality comes on to CONVERSE rather than just state the stuff management have agreed the "Antares online personality" would say, these posts should exist in the marketplace or something.. not on these forums where we use words to form, share and progress ideas. This is clearly not what Antares want to do here.

I say let the neg comments roll and maybe Antares will start to take note. If no one complains about a product's model, how will the company know. I mean here's a crazy thought, why not give customers the option of buying full license if they choose AND do the subscription thing for the others? That way you're not limiting yourself to one type of customer.
I can understand the concept of leasing for say music licensing or something similar but leasing software to edit videos or in this case music makes no sense. When you pay subscription for software, you're leasing a tool effectively and I dont know of too many carpenters who hire hammers and saws. If you're making the same kind of music (which most people do) then you're using the same tools all the time. Or maybe the subscription thing is for people who make music once in a blue moon. I just dont get it.

That's the problem; they can't take the risk of offering people both, because most people _will_ go for the purchase rather than subscription, and that destroys their ability to predict profits, and consequently how much money the shareholders make every year.
But they've got their head so far up their bottoms they can't see what the customers want. Or they can hear us, but the investors are so insistent that they take this model (because it's low risk/high profit)... and here we are. I expect it's the latter.

its a good proposition if i.e. your collaborating with someone for a limited period of time, who uses a certain set of tools.
But if I use something daily, it makes no sense to lease it
