Hi... as a baritone, the highest not I can hit in full voice is an F4. Through software, what's the best way to bring that F4 up to a G4 and have it sound fairly natural?

Assuming you want to affect a recording rather than use software to hit that note in a live situation, off-line is usually better than real-time, and by 'off-line' I mean the DSP built in to your DAW. If you're using Ableton, for example, the 'Complex Pro' Warp mode is fine for shifting your voice up a few semi-tones without too many artifacts. Most other DAWs have something like this built-in. Logic has an totally usable 'Flex Pitch' mode.. Cubase has Vari-Audio..

For voice, melodyne. Best way.

Half step however can be done with most stock tools

Personally, I detune a mix of the audio and record to that. Then raise the pitch using whatever sounds best. Usually Melodyne.

In case you do want to sing/record in real time ... not sure its very natural. Probably fine for small changes.

The Time Shift plugin shipped with PT12 has pitch transposition. FWIW, its an Audiosuite plugin, so not realtime.

If you're comfortable at hitting F4, are you sure you can't hit G4 sometimes? If that ever happens for for me, I just punch in and and do it over and over.
But yes, if you need to use software probably Melodyne.

Oh really ? I must say I’m confused about this. I’ve always heard the air becomes quicker, so the frequencies become higher. I’ve checked to be sure, and sometimes you read it gives you a higher timbre, sometimes you read it gives you a higher frequency depending on the source.
Of course the timbre becomes higher as a result, but can’t we also deduce something about the base frequency ? All the vocal cords have an accelerated frequency, don’t they ?

So the pitch is higher, am I wrong ?

No, the frequency is set by your vocal chords, that doesnt change. But the resonances of your voice are changed because of the helium in your throat; its less dense, so the higher harmonics are more pronounced.
