From their email blast.

"That's right, SONAR 4 will be shipping ahead of schedule, and those of you that pre-ordered your upgrade will be using SONAR 4 sooner than expected."

This is my favorit part

"In the end, we have only our loyal customers to thank for making SONAR 4 what it is today. We receive so much feedback, and SONAR 4 is the proof that we do listen to what users have to say."

Aww Shucks...
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

Judging by the awful XP cartoon-like graphics and convoluted mixer in Sonar 3 they certainly didn't listen to me.Unfortunately I'll have to wait for the demo and forfiet any price break for Pre-Ordering this time around(first time since Cakewalk 7).Please God,tell me they realized that mistake so I can actually use it this time.Better yet, fire the graphic artist.

convoluted mixer?
If it sounds good it is good.

Look at Acrobat Reader 6.0.2 or Vegas 5. Then look at SONAR 3 again. It's nowhere near as horrible. I hated the XP Fisher-Price default desktop.

Puke!

I did pre-order. The screen shots I saw for 4 didn't look that much different from 3 to me and I got used to that UI fairly quickly. Time will tell.

This should be good news for you then Alan... 8)

"Color enhancements for Sonar 4

Additional new color entries and color scheme presets
Completely configurable Console view colors :D
Per-clip background and foreground color settings
Tracks now have assignable clip/data colors that remain with the track, even when sorting."

I guess I'm one of the few that feel Sonar 4 has a paucity of improvements for those who dare to work in mere stereo.

$179 is like buying any of several good sequencers by small but dedicated companies. I'm holding off on this upgrade until I actually see if there is anything seriously useful for those of us not doing 5.1.

Eventually, I will and so will probably upgrade, but price and lack of the amazing fine tuning in Sonar 3 leave me cold. If things pan out and I have a 5.1 system around May of next year I might update, until then why? Am I missing some improvement that makes the cost worth it? I'm being serious, not sarcastic.

Cartoon-like graphics? Are we looking at the same SONAR? I admit that console view could have used a better console view in version 3, but "cartoonlike" Did you ever see version 2? I thought the interface design was a huge improvement.

Watch the new videos that they emailed yesterday. The comping tools and loop construction enhancements look really useful:

Plus you also get the mpex time scaling, power dithering, freeze, better metering, a navigator view, and that new synth with roland sounds. That list was from memory, I'm sure there's more than that.

I don't do surround sound (at the moment anyway), and I still feel, overall that the S4 update is the best yet. Discounting the surround sound features, there are still nearly 100 new features/enhancements that more than warrant the upgrade for serious SONAR users. I am not a casual SONAR user, it is my main DAW host app, and the new features/enhancements in S4 will definitely make a more productive environment for me to work in. My credit card was charged $187.95 yesterday, which includes FedEx (2)day delivery, I should be reading the 600+ page paper manual, installing S4 to both my desktop DAW & laptop (with the convenient serial number only copy protection) and putting SONAR 4 Producer through it's paces, in a matter of hours now :P
