I'm looking for samples of the "Hoover" synth used a lot in dark drum n' Bass.
Here is a sample:

wait for the flash to load and you will see the oval icon "hoover" under the catagory "sounds"
thanks,
Chase

ReFX Vanguard can do this. This is the ReFX JunoX replacement.
You can donload it here:
http://www.refx.net/downloads/Vanguard/ ... d_Demo.zip
and a Soundbank containing hoovers:

or maybe you get a copy of the (discontinued) reFX JunoX2.
it has some really good hoover presets ...
( i know that vanguard is the 'follow-up' to junox2,
but imo they sound different )

Allmost every synth can du that sound, it´s just a matter of programming!

Not true - it requires a synth with pulse width modulation...the hoover is no run-of-the-mill subtractive waveform patch.Allmost every synth can du that sound, it´s just a matter of programming!

This is true...a really good hoover needs some PWM. But you could pull one off my modulating the pitch of each oscillator lightly and quickly with an lfo set to a fast rate.rounser wrote:Not true - it requires a synth with pulse width modulation...the hoover is no run-of-the-mill subtractive waveform patch.Allmost every synth can du that sound, it´s just a matter of programming!

I used to own a Roland Alpha Juno 2, so I'll give a quick discription of its engine that helped to create those hooverious sounds:
2 Oscillators (usually use SAW for for hoover)
1 Sub-oscillator[/b} (-2 octaves)
Built in Chorus (which helped to fatten the sound!)
Also built in Auto Chord (Which you could use almost like unison by pressing the same note over 4 octaves)
I now own just a PC & have been able to re-create "those" hoover sounds on just about any VSTi with at least 2 osc's detuned. Just don't forget to add a bit or a lot of chorus.

PS
Ever thought about layering? Just copy your sequenced parts to another instrument channel & experiment!

I can make some pretty wicked sounding hoovers with the freeware Synth1 VSTi.
What I do is start off with a nice sounding sawish Trancey synth preset or make my own from scratch then I turn ON the "m.env" (Mod Envelope) button if it's not ON (Green Light) already, then I turn the "A" (Attack) knob to 0, then turn the "D" (Decay) knob to about 105, then I finally turn the "AMT" (Amount) knob to about 30. With that mod envelope setting the way it is, you should start to hear a hard hitting hoover sound developing. Then make sure to use the "Chorus/Flanger" effect section of the plugin to add some Phatness to it. If you don't aleady have Synth1, I suggest you download it and download preset banks that you can get from here. I myself don't really know all about the functions of VSTi's so I kind of figured this out by myself by just playing with the synth and editing presets.
