The (very old) Fabfilter Volcano 2...

Hello folks

One of my favorite (and first) filter that I bought long time ago, Volcano 2, was released in.... 2008! That's a very long time ago without any major update. Cause since then, they only updated it for general OS maintenance. I really wonder why Fabfilter never udpated it to V3 since in 13 years.

I still like it and use it (it's my only third party filter plugin), but it slowly starts to show its age against the other major contenders.I really wonder why they let that one go like that without any important update.

Anyone else feels it's about time for a serious revamp of Volcano, or you guys are pretty over with it and switched to other filters? (which would be...?) What do you guys think?

I still use it occasionally, but I actually use Simplon far more often when I need simple filter sweeps, etc. For more advanced needs (filtering with modulation), I usually go with FilterFreak or The Drop. I’m glad Fabfilter has been giving it maintenance updates, but I’d love to see Volcano (and Simplon!) get a v3 upgrade.

That's a good point tho. And Timeless went a pretty long time without any major update right?

So what would be it's biggest competitor ? UVI Shade ? Volcano doesn't use MSEG's does it ?

Have Fabfilter updated their filter models (eg in Timeless 3) since they first came out with what, at the time, were pretty FAB filters but maybe have not kept up with competitors? I love how Volcano works and would have loved to see an update with juicer filters but do have Shade though now

I use volcano 2 70% of the time, other 3 is uhbik runciter or logic's Phat FX filters.
i'd use phatfx more but it annoys me that i can't load just the filter module.
i'd use runciter more if it were native M1.

Volcano 2 is fast, great sounding, low CPU usage. I haven't found a filter that i'd like using more.

not sure they did. but not sure i wanted them to, i'm prolly gonna buy twin2 just because of the filters.
