Changing Presets - Why so hard and is there a solution?

Hi,

I feel like it's been so long for there to be no solution for this. For almost every plugin I have, there is no way to change presets other than with a mouse. Changing presets is almost never midi controllable and I am wondering if there will ever be a solution to this???

Take for example LFO tool, there are hundreds of presets with different effects. I want to change them throughout a song, but can't. It's not just LFO tool, it's every VST I own, with the exception of a very few.

Exponential Audio has arrow left-right commands for this IIRC.

Program changes don't seem to be available for most plugins.

Isn´t this possible with program change messages in any DAW already and even automatable? I used to do that in Ableton and it worked fine for me.

I think I tried this before, however I recall it using a lot of CPU.

This is why I like Komplete Kontrol/NI S SeriesKeyboards, as the keyboard has dedicated buttons for switching presets as well as the ability to browse presets and move between them using the scroll wheel. Of course this only works for plugins that are NKS compatible but there are a lot of those and users such as myself have spent a lot of time making third party plugins and sound banks compatible as well.

Also some DAWS, eg Logic, will enable you to browse libraries of patches using the keyboard. In Logic's case this works for the inbuilt instruments and fx and any third party plugin that has presets in .aupreset format that load into Logic's library eg

You can do similar in some other DAWs that support preset libraries such as Bitwig (again with compatible preset formats)

No problem - btw the browser in Bitwig supports browsing LFOTool's presets
