Gang, I need your help. Firstly, I must confess that I don't have golden ears when it comes to mixing. I can't always hear compression or EQ moves when they're towards the subtler side of things. But since the Softube Chandler Limited Germanium Compressor is on sale until Saturday (tomorrow for me) I thought I'd check it out, since people have raved about it.
I'm having a hard time hearing what's so special about it, and where it excels. Can someone point me in the direction of what I should be listening for and what material I should try it on so that it can shine?

I found it great on Mixbus, it has a good 'glue' character. I found it rounding or enhancing the bass of your mix better than other mixbus compressors.
Saturation is good.
I also jumped the gun in current sale!

And opinion on how it fares with drums? That's what I was trying it on last night.scatman84 wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 7:26 am I found it great on Mixbus, it has a good 'glue' character. I found it rounding or enhancing the bass of your mix better than other mixbus compressors.

A well-behaved signature.

Hi!
It adds a lot of lows (especially its Drive control). On MIXBUS it sounds great but not on all productions. I use it sometimes on acoustic and electric guitars for the mojo (using Mix knob). Always subtle... is like adding little steps in the overall sound. I use it a lot on bass drum for a subtle low end. It also works great as a parallel compressor for drums.
But I recognize that it has many possibilities and the learning curve is long
And I recommend you (regardless of whether you buy it) working on your listening and learn to recognize and differentiate those little sonic nuances. The sum of all of them will improve your productions and mixes.
