Question about disabling VBS

One of the recommended tweaks for windows was to disable VBS.

I have always used windows defender, and never had any probkems with malware. Maybe I am lucky.

I noticed reading about win defender that it uses VBS. So if I disable this does that mean I would need to use something else like Bitdefender or AVG?
Or do these use VBS too?

Whether VBS has a severe or light performance penalty depends on your motherboard (and probably a lot of other factors.)

No, that's not exactly how it works. Windows Defender should work OK regardless of VBS enabled or not. The task of VBS is mainly to isolate memory, so untrusted processes cannot access the private parts of other processes.

So it makes common sense when VBS is enabled that the virus/malware scanner is a process that has access to everything including the kitchen sink. And that's also the case when VBS is turned off.
