Distorted sound in Mulab

I have a strange behavior of Mulab, which I don't understand. Sometimes the sound is suddenly distorted, after it had been fine before with the same project. The internal CPU meter shows extremely high values , which maybe the reason for the distorted sound. The system CPU meter isn't very high and not critical. What's going on here?

Which version of MuLab?
Are you using VST plugins?
If yes, does it also happen when not using VSTs at all?
Is it repeatable using a specific step-by-step procedure?
What's your system config? OS version etc...

I'm using Mulab 8.7.6 on Mac (OS 10.13 High Sierra) and some VSt's in this project. I haven't the same experience with intern plugins or without plugins, but I've not really tested it. So, I can't say, if it happens in these cases too or not. My audio-output is a USB audio unit. When I reload the project, which produces this issue, the overload and distortion is gone. I can't really reproduce this behavior, but I've experienced it more than one time with different projects.

It could be a denormalization bug in a VST plugin. That's why it's important that you research whether it only happens when using VST plugins or also without using VST plugins. If it only happens with VST plugins then try to isolate the one that's causing the issue, and if you find it contact the plug developer about it. If it also happens without VST plugins then please make that project as simple as possible, thus removing racks & MUXes one by one but while still being able to repeat the issue, and then email me that atomic small project that repeats the issue.

I have had the same issue over the years, just never bothered reporting it. For me, it seems when a project is left open but untouched for a long period of time, on pressing play again, the sound is really badly distorted.
This goes back to M4! Also, this was without any VST's used at all, as I was using pure Mux projects at first. Not sure if I have those still.
I just thought it was a Mux issue causing some sort of feedback? I don't know, just guessing.

Do you still have that MUX only project that causes unexpected distortion / high cpu load? Is it still repeatable with M8? If yes then please email me that project with a brief yet precise description of how to repeat the issue.

When I get a chance I'll try to repeat the problem. I'm not sure if it still applies tho. If it does I'll post the project to you. If not I'll reply here to let you know I can't repeat it.
