Maybe for drums (e.g., Wave Alchemy Triaz), or “real” pianos or strings, but a good soft synth like Sylenth1, DUNE, Spire, Hive, etc. is a much better option for synths IMO.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Slim Phatty | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

What piano and strings would you suggest?cryophonik wrote: Sat Jan 01, 2022 11:53 pm Maybe for drums (e.g., Wave Alchemy Triaz), or “real” pianos or strings, but a good soft synth like Sylenth1, DUNE, Spire, Hive, etc. is a much better option for synths IMO.

It depends on how you want it to sound and what styles you’re doing. The included factory piano and string libraries are more than adequate, since trance is all about how you process the sounds (e.g., delays, reverb, EQ, ducking, modulation effects). Few (if any) trance producers are buying expensive third party orchestral libraries that are designed for orchestral/film scoring, so start with what you have in Kontakt.

Don't need fancy strings for trance, indeed, but good solo violin (Joshua Bell, maybe) can add a lot to tracks, and if you are going to get a dedicated string lib instead of sticking to factory stuff, you probably want smaller sections and studio recorded, not orchestral-sized sections in a concert hall. I haven't take a close look at the recent Impact Soundworks strings, but you probably should. And if you don't want to spend that much money, Light & Sound Chamber Strings seem like a very reasonable choice.
I also have some strings I can sell you, but they're probably totally wrong for trance, heh. Very aggressive shorts, a lot of weird noisy articulations. That, and not for Kontakt.
Also things like Haunted Spaces and Bioscape might be worth a look for the less natural pads side of things.

Nexus and Avenger are perfect, imo, if you are after specially designed sounds for this genre. Spire is also a good choice.

Kontakt for what exactly? For orchestra yes, I use Kontakt which covers my needs. For drums Battery 4 will do, but otherwise there are not many effects or sounds dedicated solely to trance.
