Purchasing a new laptop - worth to get Windows 11 installed, instead of my previous Win 10 pro? There are quite a contradictory information in the market about it.

I can't see any compelling reason, they aren't fundamentally different. I do f**king hate the new look of Windows 11, though, and they have removed some functionality that I use every day. But I don't see that it would make it less effective as a DAW.

Windows 11 is a Windows Vista/8 level "upgrade", skip it and wait for Windows 12. Windows 10 works just fine, and frankly is flat-out better.

I believe he should wait a bit more for it to be polished. There were some dragging performance issues between AMD and Intel platform which resulted in all AMD processors to be less effective (performance wise) then their intel counterparts.BONES wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 5:21 am I can't see any compelling reason, they aren't fundamentally different. Apparently this is fixed but I would suggest he wait at least a few months more for them to polish things. There is next major update rumored to be released around July 2022

so I would wait for that and then do a clean install - that's just my opinion.

That's what I was thinking - I know that the upgrade W10-> W11 is a minor one, just an update.stargate wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 5:37 am Windows 11 is a Windows Vista/8 level "upgrade", skip it and wait for Windows 12. Windows 10 works just fine, and frankly is flat-out better.
But will the next one (W12) require a total re-installation, meaning if it comes soon, changing the computer right now is a bit bad timing..

Interesting links. So far, what I've read, it doesn't matter if you do an update vs. the fresh installation.kmonkey wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 5:37 amI believe he should wait a bit more for it to be polished. W11 is still WIP. If you want to participate in beta testing of new OS, go for it
It's still missing a lot of features that W10 has. While at the beginning they called those missing features "an upgrade", later they admitted that they're simply still working on adding them
If you play games then maybe you're accustomed with getting unfinished products that with time will get updates and bugfixes. If yes, with W11 you'll feel at home

Yes, I think this is the common issue in most launched software, nowdays.pixel85 wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 7:33 am W11 is still WIP. If you want to participate in beta testing of new OS, go for it

I’m leaning towards staying in Win 10 Pro.
MS may force the W11 update at some point, though.

I have been on Windows 11 for months now. My computer qualified so I took the opportunity to do a clean install and clear out all the junk that had accumulated. All my apps seem to work the same as in in Win 10. A few tweaks and it was back looking much like win 10 with the start menu in the classic position in the corner.

There are, of course, always rised issues, when something is updated. For a good or less good reason.
E.g. comments like the below, where is claimed, that the W11 reserves memory even after the application is closed.

Yeah, unfortunately, this is the 'new normal' for us. I like how W11 looks like (I hate UI of W10) and I would like to jump on it but I don't have enough trust in W11 yet. The last thing I need is new issues affecting usage or stopping me from using a computer.Harry_HH wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 7:37 amYes, I think this is the common issue in most launched software, nowdays.pixel85 wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 7:33 am W11 is still WIP. In game dev company I work for, nobody is brave enough to install W11

Does It? I have no idea what that means. Does it matter in the real world? I have not noticed anything. Before I upgraded I took an image of my win 10 system in case I wanted to go back. It only takes a few minutes and I could be up and running back in Win 10 if I wanted, but I see no need.

How to separate real issues of the ”white noise”, which is always evitable, just statistically concerning global products there are always some criticism, even total pans.

I doubt it - My old laptop came with Windows 7 and over the 10 years I'd updated to 8, 8.1 and finally 10 and *nothing* needed reinstallingHarry_HH wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 6:05 amthe next one (W12) require a total re-installation, meaning if it comes soon, changing the computer right now is a bit bad timing..
