I'm looking to clone to a larger newer drive and I was wondering what happens to licenses when you do a straight clone. This guy did a marvelously simple video to show how to do this. Is this a viable way to go forth without having to unauthorize and reauthorize every plugin I have?

IIRC this one will also copy and clone the HardDrive ID.

Assuming that you're talking about your boot drive, I wouldn't bother taking the risk (of not deauthorising before cloning), unless you can easily swap the old drive back in if the licences don't work afterwards.
I have a lot of paid software on my main machine, it took all of about ten minutes to deauthorise all my licences when I last cloned a drive (warranty replacement). IMHO, taking the ten minutes is worth it just for peace of mind.
