It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Cabinets are mostly IR's, so a very complicated EQ.
Amps are in its essence a wave shaper with a strong pre/post-emphasis EQ.
I often use Tone Projects Kelvin as an "amp" and feed it to Voxengo Boogex for Cabs.
Some multiband compression between to emulate power-amp sag if you're into that kind of thing.

depends. some amp sims do much more than others, at least according to their marketing materials. if you ever talked to a person who routinely does tube modeling (such as Raymund Dratwa, dude from Audiority, etc.), you'll quickly learn that tube modeling is much more than just waveshaper - it does reduce to a waveshaper on static signals, but it reacts more dynamically on transients. of course, you could then approximate "sag" and other stuff with compressors etc. but at that point maybe it's just easier to use an amp sim?noiseresearch wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 9:14 am I wonder if all the tones one can get out of the numerous pedals and amp emulation can be achieved by tools like Saturn, apShaper, Live's Saturator. The sound of cabinets aside I assume most amp and pedal are kinda waveshaper+eq. Am I right? I don't aim to emulate a sound but to create "guitar" effects without buying new plugins. Thanks
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.
