Wooot... I just made a track with that one... :x :scared: :hyper: 8)
Hmmm, was that still on my old machine? I don't even know anymore, but I think, yes. Well, anyway: GREAT! :tu:

Haha, just post it now! It will be from the series "Track in the first 5 minutes" and everyone will again discuss the rules and the ethical side of the issue... Okay, I'm kidding) But if you, Taron, post an incredible track from FB-7999 and say that it's just a WIP that you made in half an hour just now, then know that - I'll believe you! :tu:

Post

Hehehehe, well... nice extra challenge! I've just downloaded the new version. Apparently I still had _1_1_0, so that's cool!
And, DEFINITELY on the miniPC, I remember now how impossible the GUI was to use on that computer. Now it's HEAVEN! :hyper: ...the sliders actually move! :ud:

Post

Now I checked too - I had 1.0.0!
In general, the buttons for 8000/6000 waveforms and DW-6000 mode are a bit confusing, but we kind of get 4 versions of the synthesizer in one and can program another patch, and then get three more variations of this sound and choose the best one. But I would still be glad to hear why it was important to do it just that!)

Post

Sounds so much better than what I have been struggling with lately!

Is there a way to adjust the GUI? I'm missing waveform 16, Learn and Bank Hold on the right. And 15 through 17 under OSC1 on the bottom.

Edit: I got it figured out. Sorry for asking too quickly.

Post

Lol... I haven't even looked at Learn and Bank Hold, yet, hahaha... curious. Probably because I just care for "Init" and the parameters. AH, learn is Midi learn, but mod wheel is hardcoded, or so? Cool, though! Just hooked CC21 to filter cutoff. NICE! 8)

What do you mean by "missing waveform 16" (the sin wave)?
Anyway, reminds me that there may still be some things I have ignored, but well... just started a quick test track and it is so fun to edit now with a proper machine. It does sound really neat, too. Probably properly authentic, too!? :tu:

Post

So, he reads Sysex patches! Does anyone have them, or information where to get them?) For some (DX7 for example) it is not difficult to find them, but this is a slightly less popular synthesizer.

Okay, here's a quicky for you, IV! ;)

All from scratch (init), of course. 8)

What to say... it's unbelievable... in such a short time... I'll probably spend a month just on this kind of percussion!)
It's not quite the same in the instruments yet, but in the rhythm I feel that this track could go towards Enigma! It so gently picks me up in the air... only the chorales you would have from a synthesizer, but without copyright problems!

I just meant the GUI was too big and I couldn't see that part of the screen. Fixed it. Great drums btw. Thanks for sharing.

Post

Well I'm genuinely excited about this one. I will attempt this without relying on VCV this time. sort of. I'm playing with that other thing... you'll see.

Post

Yeah, it's a really neat little synth! I love that it's got all the features to really make all sorts of instruments with it without triggering anxiety attacks, HAHA. Very pleasant to work with! Thanks, IV! and empphryio!
Looking forward to gorgo's madness again!!! :hyper: :D

Post

Cool! I always enjoy Bjorn's synths. He's so proficient!

This is a little bit of opinion, that I know goes against the OSC community, but I'll express it anyway.

Now, I know its really neat to create a patch that sounds quite close to a real life instrument. I know it takes skill. I know it takes dedication and passion. But I just think the nature of synthesizers is that no matter how hard you try, its never going to sound exactly like the real thing. And by their very nature they are going to sound a little bit off if your designing to sound like something real, like a band or an orchestra.

Synthesizers are abstract. I don't think they're meant to be used to create the experience of real life. Maybe in theory and as a final ends of some bizarre computer simulated world. I just personally think they sound better when they aren't trying too hard.

I know my personal taste isn't the dominant voice here. And I'm probably just justifying my own inability to create real sounding instruments. I just know my ear tends to prefer things that linger at the margins, rather than try to get close to dead center, yet not quite.

I am impressed by the craftmanship. I'm just not sure the sound is of my personal taste. That's all.

And this isn't just about Taron's awesome drums. I've been thinking about this for a while and is one of the reasons why I might not give someone a 4 or a 5, even though their skill level justifies it.
