Hi guys,
how do you make this kind of bass (and does it have a name actually)? To me it's difficult to get such a crisp punchy attack and at the same time have such a dark warm overall sound.

or here at 1:21
how to make this bass?

Wooooooooahhhhhh excellent! Thanks a ton!
I never think of FM, because when I started out I read that FM is cool but most difficult to control, so that basically you can't deliberatley design a sound with it. You proved the contrary here. I like your result very much, it has the characteristic thickness in tone and the subdued kind of snappy attack, which this sound is all about. Interesting also the very simple initial setup, and then how the work is in the details, and how all things play together, especially the unison, filter and distortion modules.
I learned a lot, thanks so much again!
Cheers

No problem bud.
I would strongly recommend playing the notes you want over and over and over and select the ones that sound best and sample them.
Check if they sound good in mono ect and maybe layer the attack part of the sound with a similar patch or something else.
FM is a bit of a roll-of-the-dice but once you how how one of these is made you can then "get creative" and try different waveforms, different pitch, different processing, bla bla bla.
You can even solely focus on the attack part of the sound and layer a lowpassed pulse wave and play with the width till you get the right character for the low layer.
