Waves released a new plugin to clean vocals from background. There is a Vx and a Vx Pro version.
I've tested this plugin and it's impressive, i've also compared this one with other tools
You can check the test and the comparison in the following video

I’ll be trialling this tomorrow. Incredibly impressive videos and testimonials - potentially real time performance better than offline performance until now. Production Expert declared that for Post, “this changes everything”. $249 is a steal, compared to the alternatives.
As for $30 for the basic version… words fail.

Mercury bundle owners would appreciate more stuff being included in the bundle. Lots of lite versions only for Mercury recently...

Got this today. Absolutely astonishing - blows away UAD's C-Suite (CEDAR) and even RX9's best offline modes for most chores. For most challenges I threw at it, turning the dial all the way to noise had absolutely zero dialogue component in it. That's why it sounds so clean, you nearly always get some bleed through which is what sounds like artefacts in the dialogue.
The only thing to watch is it is VERY VERY thirsty. In Pro Tools I usually run at at buffer of 256 with no issues. Even using this in its offline AudioSuite, the buffer had to be 1024 to work on my rig.

I tried the basic version. It's incredible!
Tried it on a recording where background noise (people talking) is almost on the level of voice. This plugin easily removed 70% of the noise without affecting voice. I had to do a lot of tweaking in RX to get the same result. If I had it then, I could save lots of time.
The Pro version is probably even better but I don't work with a voice that often to pay that much for it. So I'm not even testing.
This is really a game-changer. Not only it does reduce ambience like no other plugin but it can do it in real-time, where RX can barely do it when on its highest quality settings.

I will try the demo later but wondering from those that have it, does it work ok with non-vocal noisy sources?

How do you mean? Aircon / lawnmowers / commercial jets? If so, it’s yes to all the above. Gets rid of the lot.

But will it remove those things from, say, an acoustic guitar track? I think that is what plexuss was asking.noiseboyuk wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:52 pmHow do you mean? Aircon / lawnmowers / commercial jets? If so, it’s yes to all the above. Gets rid of the lot.

Ah right. No. It’s purely trained to work on the human voice.

I thought my question was clear. It touted as a "vocal background noise reducer". My question is does it work well for non-vocal sources. I dont know another way to ask this. yes, guitars, synths, enviromental audio (sound effects), etc? Non vocal sources.jamcat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:06 pmBut will it remove those things from, say, an acoustic guitar track? I’ve answered it above - no. As the name says, it’s designed purely for voice.

So a good use case would be a live concert recording from the cheap seats to attenuate crowd chatter apparent during the interludes between songs? Or the opposite, to attenuate b/g noise during a voice recording?
I will try to personally test it with some material and compare vs alternatives and then I'd be convinced.

The opposite. Crowd noise will be interpreted as noise, not voice - it’s trained to recognise single voices and eliminate everything else.
