Help Needed: Snap to Key/Scale Feature?

Audio Plugin Hosts and other audio software applications discussion

Hi! One of the classes I teach is filled with non-musical students, and I'd like to have them experience the enjoyment of creating. I think it would be really cool if I could select a scale/key and have all notes in key play/record and ignore out-of-key notes . . . or snap them into key. Does any DAW or other audio software do this? It would be extra cool if I could also make adjustments/exceptions to the basic key/scale rules, i.e., b7, etc.

I'm hopeful such a thing exists. If not, it should. ;-)

Thank you!!

Pretty much every DAW can do that

Can you give me an example? I have a few DAWs and never discovered such an option. I hope/trust you are correct. It would be wonderful to see students banging away on the keys without being out of key. ;-)

Cubase has this feature. See this link :

Shoot! I no longer have Cubase. ;-( Can any other DAWs do this?

there is Piz midi vst plugin called midiForceToKey that does this.
In https://code.google.com/archive/p/pizmidi/downloads look for "pizmidi_x64_20111013.zip"

Wouldn't it be simpler if you name what DAW you have ?

Or . . . what DAW I will get! ;-) Which DAWs besides Cubase can do this? I'm intrigued by a special plugin, but if a DAW has this built in . . . . Can any DAW allow users to set key/scale and ignore out-of-key notes? Can exceptions be selected?

These students have enough failure in their lives. They need some good notes before I introduce the bad. ;-)

Hive can constrain itself to a scale...

Will it allow for exceptions, e.g. a flatted 7th? Will it do keys and scales?

Tell them brats to use only the black (or white) keys

Ableton live... fl studio ...

Or just tell them to only use white notes... and use a pitch shifter to change tonality... that way you can introduce slowly "exceptions"...

Most of the major DAW's today can do that one way or another. Live, Bitwig, FL Studio, Studio One, Cubase... Reaper too I think.

Hmmm, I wonder if Logic can do this. I assumed Cubase would and possible Reaper as it seems to have every feature buried in there somewhere, but not the others.
