So with all the new reverbs this month - I decided to make a shootout between 7 reverbs and compare crystalline, tails & sobor with my goto reverbs. This shootout is certainly subjective but I'm looking for a good reverb for huge & wide pluck lines... Here is the chain I have:
- the synth is falcon (with sampled jupyter - Saturn 8)
- I have a bx_cleansweep for lp filter
- relayer delay
- reverb
- I put a slight compressor after the reverb to accentuate the tails

I tuned the reverb parameters to mute highs, keep a long tail, widen the sound and tried to match them.

I am really surprised to how different the modulation sounds in the tail between the different reverbs.

Curious to know what you guys think and if you will guess which one is which :-)

Rik, please PM me and tell at what timepoint Sobor starts in your track, this is for my research purposes (won't tell anyone). Definitely modulation and "resontantness" are different between reverbs, but guessing which is which is actually hard if you do not know them all very well.

dude, what? You want us to guess from 7 different reverbs but you've only named 3 of them?

lol was actually curious if some of you could recognize Valhalla

In order:
Sparkverb, Sobor, UVI Plate, Raum, Valhalla room, Tails, Raum, Crystalline

Thanks, I guess Sobor accumulates a lot more "prior harmony" than other reverbs. Not sure if it's good or not in practice.

Well that was with 9x size. Sobor had one of my favorite tails in terms of frequency response, it is long and dark compared to the bright ones from the other reverbs - however in my track, for the pluck, I ended up using Raum because it sits better in the mix.

Haven't tried Sobor with vocals but I suspect it might really shine. Any chances to get more parameters in the next version @Aleksey?

Sobor already exposes most of its parameters. Reverberation model is systematized pretty much, it's not a bunch of random tweaks.

I've released Sobor 3.1 - you may check out its Size/ER feature, at higher selector values ER levels become dominating, can be now matched to Raum I think.

Oh yes you are absolutely right!! I replaced Raum with this new version and purchased it. The change you did in ER side are significant.

ugh 3 day trial... really??? Please relab - seriously. What's the point of a 3 day trial. And the installer asks for a reboot - we are back in 2008 (but looking at the ux - might be the point).

Anyway tried it - quite interesting, it is by far the brightest and IMO wayy too bright compared to the other reverbs, plus its width is not sounding as deep as the other ones.

Any chances to get a mix % control instead of the wet + dry gain? would love to automate the mix %

No plans for a mix control since it's hard to keep overall output gain matched to some loudness level. Mix controls in reverbs are usually "broken" IMO.

The specialist for really long reverb is Dirk Diggler (google Boogie Nights).
