Curious if anyone really likes any particular sound library for instruments in the middle ages of europe? I'm probably going to buy Eduardo Tarilonte's Era II Medieval Legends. I have went through what Best Service has to offer. Am I missing anything that's on the same level?

Tarilonte's stuff is great. For somewhat later Renaissance stuff, Soniccouture has a nice library. Orchestral Tools Miroire is even later instruments. VSL might have some stuff also, I know they have historical winds.

Other options: Groth (more Hollywood-ready and processed, for example includes a cello), Three Tagelharpas (mine), Orcophony (also mine, includes more modern stuff but also lots of medieval drums, bagpipes and a horn made from ibex horn). Older but still good: World Suite.

Have used Tarilonte Medieval, and some Zero-G.

The sounds you get are raw sounding, even scratchy.

So don't expect smooth sounds such as you may be used to with modern libraries.

The trick is to harness the scratchy sound and use it in your piece as-it-is.

Then you'll have something unique & authentic :)

Sonicouture imo is best for theorbo and small guitars, which are neat.

Cinematique's lute isn't bad either at only $45.
