hello everyone,
the overloud audio tools team has released a new plug-in from the GEM series called EQP.
This plug-in includes three of the most iconic emulations of the famous Pultec passive EQs EQP-1A, MEQ-5 and HLF 3C in one plug-in.
The strengths of this plug-in apart from the great realism of the product are the addition of a Display and Clip Level.
This tool transforms the sound of your drums or voice giving more dynamics and punch.
On promotion at 69eur.

I have no idea how it compares to the hardware but I really like how this sounds. Also appreciate the graphic display to understand how Pultec curves work. I'd probably start collecting GEMs if the general pricing was more competitive.

Not as pricey as the ancient Softube one, and I believe most of the Gems have oversampling - so there's that. The visual curve display is a nice modern touch. $67 at JRRshop Blowout btw
But... Sonimus and Acustica fulfill all my Pultec desires. Maybe NoiseAsh on occasion.

Am I the only one who never really got into the Pultec-style equalizers? Maybe it’s coz I’m dumb, but most of the time they just don’t work for me. Tried the famous pultec “low end trick” multiple times on bass drums, couldn’t get to a satisfactory result most of the time and was usually faster just using a 1073 or SSL style EQ. Bit better results for snare drums maybe. Never got along with the mid bands, either.
As for limited/colorful EQ, I’d take SlickEQ GE over Pultecs any day. Much better usability, too. Or Fuse VQA for weird, wide shapes.
What and how are you people using it for?

It’s buggy. I passed on it.
The two main issues: 1) one of the switches changes the frequency slightly when moved even when knobs at zero, and, 2) the hp and lp filters are always engaged, even when the switch is set to off. The end result is that it isn’t as good for boosting highs and lows as any of the other pultecs I compared it to.
Personally, I’d never get it unless at least the second thing was changed.
Spent the cash on the DiscoveryPro synth, instead.

According to the Bertom EQ Analyzer, the HP/LP filters are definitely not always engaged. They work exactly as they should.vitocorleone123 wrote: Tue Apr 26, 2022 3:30 pm the hp and lp filters are always engaged, even when the switch is set to off.

Good to see. They must've fixed it in a dot release from v1.0. That's not what PluginDoctor showed me when I used it.trackbout wrote: Tue Apr 26, 2022 4:52 pmAccording to the Bertom EQ Analyzer, the HP/LP filters are definitely not always engaged. Ya could be, there were a few bugs in the 1.0 version in certain DAWs if you had the oversampling engaged. They got 1.0.1 out pretty quickly and cleaned them up.

It is a bit different than your average Pultec. Having all the bands in one plugin is nice, the curve display is nice, the clipper can be handy if you want a more pushed sound, and linking the IN and OUT knobs and driving it actually generates some really nice, subtle saturation if you want a slightly colored sound. If you already have the Bettermaker for example, which is pristine, this is a totally different animal.
