Yeah fair enough.
I never invested time in those sounds myself for lack of interest but the curious part of my brain now wants to.
I couldn't imagine it being too hard to figure out.
If you can specify one or two exact sounds and times I'll have a look if I get a chance this weekend

also this type of sound is a good example at this video:
at - 1:11 and 1:05 - 1:06
Thank you for helping !

I think there is an interview with Noisia in which they talk about using brass samples. Twist them up: re-envelope pitch, amplitude, filter and distort to taste.
You could also synthesise these kinds of sounds using FM synthesis and/or physical modelling synths. Massive's feedback path and FM capable filters are able to produce some nice brass sounds.
Didn't listen to the first track yet.
In general, dubstep borrows a lot from dnb but also from grime, two-step garage - and (naturally) dub.

Just had a listen and they're quite common sounds (although I do hear layer(s) in one at least)
They are typical FM dubstep sounds.
The best way to get to know these is to get some presets (paid or free ones) and reverse engineer them.
I don't have any saved on my PC but if you do find a few suitable ones I can help you with the explaining of how to dissect them but it's a matter or flicking through some packs perhaps.

Now listened to the OP: Sounds like a distorted 808 bass underpinning everything with stabs of manipulated vocals. Something that might get you there quickly is Cyclop by Sugar Bytes.
Form by Native Instruments should work very well for this kind of thing but whatever your DAW has that allows you to draw an envelope over the pitch of a sound is going to get you most of the way there.

Is there a way to reverse engineer a sound that is FM?CHOOS wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 7:35 pm Just had a listen and they're quite common sounds (although I do hear layer(s) in one at least)

well yes but sorry if i explained myself wrong. I meant that if you have the preset already, depending on you level of synthesis. I could go over what every knob, setting, effect is doing to break it down.
You might be fully capable of doing this yourself? But if not there's plenty of helpful people here(including myself) that will explain or in my case record a video show how and why something is doing something.

I just had a hunt around but couldn't find the thing. It can't be that many years old though. Essentially, they were talking about how they would spend a day just finding sounds and then processing them with no aim to include them in a track - just to make them sound cool on their own. Then on another day, when building a track, they will look in these sound design folders and pull out samples to use. There was a lot of brass and you can hear those characteristics in certain dnb sounds. Layering that with a sub will create some nice harmonic expressions.anthonygelles wrote: Sat Apr 16, 2022 11:01 amDo you remember the name of the interview? and where can i learn more about taking brass and twist him ?Unaspected wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 3:06 pmBrass.anthonygelles wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 2:52 pmFirst of all thank you ! The whole note or expression wouldn't be used but some short articulation would be cut out and re-enveloped in a variety of ways. I'm sure they were just sampling stuff out of Kontakt. Unless this was a fever dream.
If I can find the bookmark later, I'll share here. The interview - which was more like a studio demo - was on YouTube.
