Studio One and Reason Should Partner

I think Reason Studios should partner with Studio One. Reason Studios seems to be moving away from their own DAW and concentrating on the rack. Studio One is constantly criticized for not great stock instruments and effects (bar some exceptions). Seems like a great match. A super tight integration of Reason's devices in Studio One has the potential to bring existing modulator style control to Studio One like those found in Bitwig.
I am a Studio One user, but I also own Reason and Bitwig. I love the foundation of Studio One. It's stable and makes sense. I miss the modulators and experimental feel of Bitwig. I love the way Reason looks, but it isn't the best workflow for me. I think Reason/Studio One combo would make both stronger. Just my opinion of course.

That is an entertaining response.

I'm totally fine with the Studio One effects. Stock effects are mostly way better than Reason's. And I couldn't care less about stock instruments. At least Studio One is not designed as In-the-box or self-contained studio. If you are in the need, then there are plenty VST plugins out there to choose from.

IMO HY solved this
38 built-in effect units
10 types of modulator (total 42 units)
Built-in grid sequencer (CTRL SEQ) for controlling effect and modulator units
Drag and drop modulation assignment

I like S1 just fine as it is and if they started adding all that other shit, I'd probably stop updating. You should also remember that Reason started out being the rack with a very basic sequencer and it didn't even support VST/VSTi for the first 4 or 5 versions, maybe even later than that. So it should not be a surprise that they put more effort into the rack side of things.Downangle wrote: Thu Apr 21, 2022 5:26 amI am a Studio One user, but I also own Reason and Bitwig. Personally, I don't really care about bundled instruments. They are increasingly pointless and if I had the option, I probably wouldn't install them at all. I certainly don't install any of the other content that comes with Studio One. That stuff might be handy for beginners but I can't see that anyone who has been at this for a few years would bother with any of it. e.g. If you have Battery, why on Earth would you want Impact XT or Groove Agent or whatever Reason's drum instrument(s) is/are?

I personally avoid NI Maschine and Battery like the plague in S1 because I've had major issues with them in the past, where projects wouldn't open and constantly crash S1. S1 would even crash when trying to remove the plugins. I just use whatever the DAW has included and save myself the grief.BONES wrote: Thu Apr 21, 2022 7:04 am If you have Battery, why on Earth would you want Impact XT or Groove Agent or whatever Reason's drum instrument(s) is/are?
You are also not going to get the level of integration in Battery or any other plugin for that matter that you can with Impact XT in S1, or redrum or whatever the other drum module in Reason is.
Anyway back OT. I don't think S1 needs Reason. S1 has always been a no frills meat and potatoes DAW. They focus on what they are good at, the workflow, and if you want to use your own better sounds they leave that up to you. Reason Rack is cool but frankly there are far better sounding instruments and effects out there. If they did a bundle deal I wouldn't say no, but I probably wouldn't use it as I don't even use Reason Racks now and I own it.

For me, they went on a date, but it didn't really work out. It would be better if Propellerheads created a completely new DAW from scratch that was new and innovative with fancy graphics in video and music production contained in a new exiting eco system

Doesn't everybody want every DAW to turn into FL Studio eventually?

I use Battery a lot and I've never had any problems. Mind you, lately I've been using Ujam's drum instruments more than anything else but we already have dozens of songs that use Battery and I see no reason to f**k around replacing it. And because I have to have Battery for those old songs, I see no reason to install S1's drum samples, just so I can use it instead. I have use Impact XT and I actually quite like it, it's just that I don't need it so I don't bother.apoclypse wrote: Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:06 pmI personally avoid NI Maschine and Battery like the plague in S1 because I've had major issues with them in the past, where projects wouldn't open and constantly crash S1. Integration? It's just another instrument that shows up in the list, I don't see any magical powers within it.You are also not going to get the level of integration in Battery or any other plugin for that matter that you can with Impact XT in S1, or redrum or whatever the other drum module in Reason is.

I can see your points. Thanks for pointing out HY Xbitz, I didn't realize that existed. I also get your point Bones as well, and I think you're right about the default content that S1 provides. I don't install it either. But, I do think Reason Studios is heading in the right direction with some of its new synths. I would take Algoritm and Friction as a stock synth any day. I also like the effort they are putting into their player devices. I just think it would be interesting if Reason Studios had an endpoint for their devices without concentrating on the DAW. I am just not that impressed with S1's sampler and built in synths. I do love Impact. And I have a ton of 3rd party plugs that would do the job if S1 came with nothing. I do think S1 could increase it's popularity with that partnership though, and it seems to me it would benefit both companies. But, they both know what they are doing and who their customers are, so who am I to say?

I think people who make cookie cutter EDM are going to use Ableton or Fruity Loops or Bitwig. Studio One users are more likely to record real instruments (there's a reason Fender merged with Presonus.) Reason and Studio One teaming up would wreck both brands and be a disaster for everyone involved.

The only thing real instrument I record into the DAW are vocals. I sure do love how ARA2 has been integrated in S1, and it's the main reason I stay with it. For me, a combination of ARA2 and freeze function are the two features I can't live without in a DAW.
I arrived at S1 after Sonar bit it. I know a lot of others did the same. The artist price got me hooked, and the workflow seemed very familiar to what I was used to. It also was more stable than Sonar. If I had the impression that it was for recording real instruments, I probably wouldn't have considered it. I guess I'm glad I didn't know that.
I don't feel that our stuff is run of the mill EDM, but it is very much electronic. I absolutely loved Logic when I could use it on PC. I miss the stock plugs that came with it then, let alone what comes with it now. I'm just saying it would be nice to have a full featured FX and instrument suite with S1.
But as was pointed out, Fender purchased S1 for a reason. I'm feeling that maybe I'm an outlier S1 user here.
