Ok, this is my first venture into the world of melding internet with my business...

http://www.audio-labs.net

I had 3 people drop on me amidst a much nicer site with much better layout and text presentation... which I couldnt finish. This is the best I could come up with by myself.

Any constructive feedback is welcome. think of this as version 0.1 I guess... I still have yet to add pricing, some pictures of rooms perhaps (if I clean them up...), more links to labels/bands worked with and generally just more boring show-off information stuff.

also need to figure out how to do rotating banners... so for now just go buy wusikstation off that banner :-P

Can i suggest you to force a white backgound of the body of your html...
I set the default to grey in windows, and sites that expect it to be white are ugly.

And maybe remove the rabbit at least before you are sure your site is OK...

Good luck with your business... :)

k doing it now. [edit] fixed. I tested by changing the default windows color and it looks fine now. thanks!

I kept the banner so people can comment on the placement, size etc..

Looks good man, & congrats on getting off the ground.

One criticism:

I know you're probably targeting screen resolutions far below 1280 x 1024, but I would still raise your body text by at least a point size..That text is a bitch to read, seriously..Are you setting the page to default at 600x800 or 1024x768?

Go with the bigger one if not, IMO..

Post

yes.. i've here 1680 x 1050 and its almost unreadable.. i would do it more dynamical instead of a fixed size layou..

Post

I did it at 1024x768...

Ill try it later tonight at higher res...

I havent seen anyone using 800x600 in a long time so I figured I was safe with the majority. Ill convert the font sizing to a relative measure once I go try it on my larger monitor.

Thanks.

[edit]

seems dynamic fonts wont work because it spaces out the page... hrm. You guys cant use your browser's zoom feature? :) hmm.. how to fix this.

Not bad, all in all. Infact it's quite good. I just did my site this week and am still fumbling through the process. How do you get a link to work outside of your site? Whenever I create a link to another site, I get an error message that that file is not on my server.Do feel free to look at my site and critique it.As I said, it's my first effort at this and it is a heck of a learning curve.

Anyway, not to digress too far... The type should definately be larger. But otherwise good job and good luck with your business.

Uh..that might be fine to ask ME, but don't expect a potential customer to respond to that kinda thinking very well

:uhuhuh:

I like the look...nice!

@bassballjg:
when linking to external sites do not forget to type http:// before www.

Post

yeah, add http:// to all the links to go external.

I had that "bug" in my site till glooper pointed it out on IRC about 30 seconds before I posted it on here :)

Thanks so far everyone, any comments on content? readibility (outside of font size). Any crucial informaiton I missed besides pricing and more pictures?

You forgot to add the discount rates you offer during Hurricane Season to replace eveything that gets smashed up every year..

:hihi:

I think Im going to do a 1600x1200 version tonight perhaps.

Does that seem like a good solution? Just add a splash page logo and maybe some demo music link and choose your resolution.. low (800x600) and high (above 1024x768).

Ok, THAT'S a little high..I wouldn't exceed 1280x1024 personally..

Also, there's nothing wrong with using 1024x768, but I would recommend centering the page instead of forcing left..

Which cracked copy of Dreamweaver are you using?

I did it all by hand. Check the source it's quite obvious ;)

I just checked with someone using 1280x1024 and they said it was fine. Its fine on my 1600x1200 so Im still trying to figure out the problem.

Ill see how a centered version looks tonight. I did all the positioning absolute so...

Post

yes I noticed the absolute positioning, kind of stuck with it when you start using images as layout/border tools I guess. Does make your text zooming suggestion rather useless, but all around a nice site.

About the services you offer, I'm planning on recording demos for local bands, and as part of my service would be burning them a dvd with all their individual tracks, if I recommend they send it to you for 'best' results, would that be considered mixing or demo mastering?

Granted of course that any local bands can get the change together, and I get off my ass and hustle a bit more (both seem rather unlikely if I think too much)
