Bit of a 'companion piece' to the last thing I did. Another slightly dirty, over the top (no kitchen sink, but other plumbing...), slightly off kilter, editing and effects wibble bastardry one with Macratney err, pastiche bit (He can sue me, but all my geetars are all cheap and right-handed, old man).. I shall forthwith be doing either some straight up pop, rawk, or some folkie wankery acoustic stuff next. Honest.

Nifty, a tribute to the Beatles ... sound-wise it's more Bob Dylan.
You go even more into the psychedelic corner and seem to have
the serenity and ability to express yourself well in this way. The
feeling you create here is amazing!

I don't get around here much anymore but when I saw you posted a song I just had to listen to it.

What's to say? I hear Beatles in this as well as Tal Bachman, ELO, Pete Townsend (of course) and I'm sure if I thought hard and long enough, some other folk.

One of the more unusual pieces I've heard from you and that's saying something because none of your music is what I would call mainstream. But this one really stretches things, at least to my ears.

A thoroughly enjoyable listen. It would take me weeks to be able to identify everything going on in this song. It's deceptively intricate. The mix is off the charts amazing and so "not your usual stuff".

Of course the ending just had me scratching my head wondering what kind of drugs you were on at the time. Shades of "I am The Walrus" but just not as long.

I really need to come around here more often if this is the kind of stuff you're doing now.

I liked this more than the previous piece, because it didn't sound as "rushed" as the earlier song. By "rushed" I'm not referring to the writing/recording/mixing process, but the length of the piece. It sounded like you were trying to fit a lot into a short running time on "The Last Refuge", but here the track length is longer and the different ideas and sections seem to work better because they are able to "stretch out" in comfort. I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this one, and the field recording was entertaining and all done in the best possible taste.

Why are you not able to get around here much anymore?
I've not been able to much also - I've been getting back into programming (Python) and that's been taking my focus and energy.

Anyway, as I look through the songs on KVR every week, I genuinely can't find enough quality music to comment on. DT is an exception with real talent. I liked the creativity in this one. Vocal mixing could be a bit better. Overall though, liked it a lot.

My video project is keeping me very busy so I'm not writing as much music as I used to. Here we are into May and I'm still working on my first CD of this year. Usually, by now, I have 4 or 5 done.

DT is one of the top artists here. I always look forward to his stuff. It's not the same old same old.

Could you elaborate a bit - the sound, levels, too uneven etc? Always a blind spot for me and takes me a while to settle on levels/automation etc.

Lot of mid range stuff in there: guitars and cello, clash with vocal and muffle it somewhat.
I'd hard pan guitar/cello LR to make space for vocal; or turn their volume down. Its not all parts of the song, its those parts where cello/guitar compete with vocal it gets messy.

Cheers, I'll have a cogitate! Not keen on messing with panning (quite wide already) but there may be a case for a bit more ducking in parts. Or I could use the tried and tested method of turning up the vocals a bit...
