anyone here have a POLY D keyboard from Behringer?

Wonder if this is normal or not:

seems like ocs 2 3 4 "affect" osc 1 when they are set at low or 32'. even when off, 2 3 and 4 cause some cyclic ping in osc 1 when everything is open and pure, no modulations that I can see - but like a modulation is set. when 2 3 4 are higher and much higher the effect on osc 1 is much less noticeable or maybe gone - I suspect it is because they are cycling so fast, one can not hear the effect and it just sounds like an oscillator.

also, for no reason I know, my osc 3 jumped down 3 octaves compared to the rest. it was fine on first power up - because I immediate tuned them all to 440, but now I have to put it on 2' to equal 16' on the rest.

I tried factory reset per instructions in the downloads, but not even sure if it is taking.
I plan to do an oscillator tune up per that download manual soon, just wondering if I got a bugged unit.

thanks!

ah.... the joys of hardware!! :D :D

for anyone watching I did an A/B same interface, same monitors comparison POLY D and Cherry Audio MiniMode and there was BARELY any difference. SOME tiny, insignificant EQ difference, so easily altered, its only a matter of preference and mixing.

Post

Everything is a matter of preference, always will be. Who cares if a plugin sounds the same? Give me a proper hw version with knobs on it every day. I have both the Ospix and Wavestate in hw and sw, and I use the hw far more than the plugins and can't see that changing. Plugins are a hellish way of creating sound via mouse or pad - always will be to me. If you like being glued to a screen diddling with a mouse, fine, go for it.

Great, we have a Bones mkii in the forum.

hmmmm ok, not sure what that means....
I agree, knobs are great. that's why I bought a POLY D and the MiniMode. not sure how my comparo was so triggering...
I was pretty excited the software sounded so good.

Anyway, here seeing if oscillator cross affecting is normal for this unit

Did you do the tuning as instructed or like this

Seems he put all at 8' when tuning.

So doing this turning knobs to 32' etc it affects other oscillators even with volume on zero of 32', or what exactly do you mean?

Turning off one with 32' still affects others?

If so might be an error or dc calibration between oscillators or something. If turned off it should not affect anything else, unless power supply is flaky.

But if put to higher than 32', along with the others, still 'ping'?
- no workaround to get those you want sounding alone?

Considering the authenticity of their other emulations, I'm quite surprised about that...

it does actually sound pretty good. especially as given, as you say, their previous offerings do fall short.
but the few videos ive bothered watching, the sound is damn good!

it's just pretty much impossible to get excited about a mini emu though (although an actual mini emu {the dinosaur like bird} would be a cool house pet) considering most of us already have at least one!

The oscillator 3 thingy seems like there is something wrong with the unit if tuned once at 8'.

Yeah, kind of. :) Good to hear that it sounds good though. Might give it a shot one day.

i should say, while it may not be for me (or you as i know you have others already) there are many younger folk, who for a couple of weeks pocket money, can have a mini moog!

that's awesome!

yes I tuned one at a time as soon as I turned it on ( i know I should wait for warm up, but its all good, I know how that all works affecting sound later)
I have NOT done the full blown oscillator calibration yet. I will do that after sending more info to Behringer

yes, with osc1 on, and the rest OFF, if you set say osc2 (or 3 or 4) at LO or 32', you hear it pinging it VERY SLIGHTLY, almost would miss it. I also tested all the osc the same and they all affected each other. Opened a ticket with BEHRINGER and sent them audio and they want me to send video now so they can look into it.
if you turn the other osc up higher it is fast enough it blends in to the osc sound and you would not notice it. though I noted Starsky Carr briefly mentioned a warbling or something I forget - I think that is this

It's not a HUGE deal, but I would guess it should not work like that.

after playing with both though my 5.1 THX system, I was very pleasantly surprised! reviewed tons of video and audio on POLY D, and it is 99% perfect MiniMoog, and the MiniMode was 99 to 100% soundling like poly D... so... :)

I noted SOME very tiny filter differences - could be differences the Poly D is different than Mini? I have no way to know for sure. tiny .5 to 1 db differences in EQ, easily fixed, and VERY subjective really.
But, yes, if my back was turned, I do not think I could have identified which was which.
I have Arturia Mini V also and it is just as good, just slightly different. didnt seem as ballsy or maybe that is mental :D

For kicks (before buying POLY D) I looked up MiniMoog prices: $8,000 and up. So, yeah $40 is great!
