Hi, I have a Nord Electro hooked up to inputs 3-4 on an Avid S3, only way I can access those inputs is by opening Pro Tools. I'm looking for some sort of mixer that can access the core audio driver so I can monitor those inputs without having to open PT and load up a session. Kinda like the mix software that controls most interfaces. It doesn't need to load plugins or anything just monitor the audio going into those inputs.
Is there such a thing? Free would be wonderful.

If Avid delivers core audio drivers, any free host should do it. If not, lesson learned, don‘t buy from companies that force proprietary interface technology…
Free hosts: Ardour, Audacity…
But that is not easier than opening ProTools. I would actually recommend Mainstage. Not free though, but you get a bunch of great synths with it. If you could afford S3 and ProTools, it should be a no-brainer…

Yes, the S3 is AVB which makes it class compliant so no issue driver-wise. I have no issues with my rig, wanted something more immediate than loading up pro tools and a session. I do own Mainstage and have created a concert that allows for me to practice my piano playing without much loading, thought there could be something even faster to load.
