Wondering if anyone got a chance to compare these two?
Korg already has an official plugin version of the MS-20. Is the Arturia version any different to it for better/worse?
I know there's a demo available but I'm not much of a sound designer and mostly use presets, so I'd probably not be able to get both the plugins to sound the same, for comparison reasons, so thought I'd ask here. Tried to find a video/article about it, but all comparisons are made with the hardware version of the Korg MS-20/mini and not the Korg Collection version.

Carr will likely do a comparison between a hardware MS-20 and the two software versions eventually. Comparing only the two virtuals to each other isn't really useful.

Seriously, what happened to Arturia? The MS-20 appears to me as if they said "Ok guys. No more messing around. Let's unleash the beast!". Seriously.
It's as if they upped their analog modelling department a level from one day to the other. It's day/night to their other emus. IMO. YMMV.
It's not only the absolutely hilariously screaming filter (which has quite a nice resonant behavior as well, very smooth, very pleasant), but, it also seems like they finally got the bottom end right.

Yeah it's huge, I did think the synthi was good though.chk071 wrote: Tue May 17, 2022 8:16 pm Seriously, what happened to Arturia? The MS-20 appears to me as if they said "Ok guys. Well, I have both and both sound great. There are little differences here and there between the two, but these will be lost in the mix of complete song, unless your song consists of MS20 only…

I think Diva with the MS-20 modules is better than both by a long shot. Thuogh I do like that the Arturia filters are a little screamier and it seems like they loose a bit less resonance at higher osc volumes. But the raw oscillator sound falls a bit short as often the case with Arturia. If Diva and the Arturia MS20 where mixed together somehow, that would be very accurate!

I think I like the Korg Collection 3 more than the V collection, because of the other synths (M1, Triton/Extrere/Wavestation), so I'm a little confused if I should invest in the V collection or the Korg Collection. V collection seems to have more variety, although it also seems to be way bloated at times. A lot of the synths imo sound no better than the everyday Serum/Sylenth1 etc (if that is they even manage to sound as good as Serum/Sylenth1 etc). I don't just, I could be absolutely wrong, just what I've noticed.

For me the Arturia is the best of the VST. Closest to the hardware and having the SQ-10 included - looks really great.
The Korg sounds quite soft synthy to me and not so present.
The MS 20 is Diva is nice, but doesn't have the bite or also quite so much presence. Electric Himalaya did a nice sound set for this. It's just a bit too soft and tame for me.
The hardware still has an edge though. And the B K2 not quite up to the Korg MS 20 FS.

Another couple of options that have actually been my favorite substitutes for the MS20 in software are the Drop by Cytomic, and softube Modular with the Intellijel Korgasmatron, which is based on a hardware module that's based on the MS20 filters.
With The Drop obviously you need a sound source, and I like the raw sound of the Trilian sampled oscillators (including MS20 sounds sources) in Omnisphere (so it has the Ring Mod and other stuff), or whatever else like Reaktor blocks sound sources. You can also do this with using Softube Modular FX version and run these into the Korgasmatron. Or you can just use the Softube Modular instrument and set up something like the MS20 structure using the standard doepfer modules. This is something I'd like to do but haven't tried yet. I wonder if anyone has tried to emulate the MS20 functions and signal path in a softube modular preset yet.

I always thought the Korg softie lacks a lot of body and the filter doesn't scream nearly as much as on the hardware as well. The MS-20 sound kind of grew on me with the time (actually, it's quite a fat sounding synth. Not too much into other Korgs, but, the MS-20 is quite nice). I listened to a lot of sound demos, and, if I'm not totally mistaken, the Arturia is not that bad, and sounds a lot in that direction._leras wrote: Wed May 18, 2022 9:06 am For me the Arturia is the best of the VST. This has been my impression based on having the software and some experience with the original hardware._leras wrote: Wed May 18, 2022 9:06 am For me the Arturia is the best of the VST. Closest to the hardware and having the SQ-10 included - looks really great.
