prophet V3 vs prophet 5 V; is it worth upgrading?

Hello, I'm curious to know if there is a significant difference in sound between the two. I have the V collection V8 and I love the jupiter 8; and also use the prophet quite often (but the sound is not as good). I don't really want to upgrade to V collection V9 since I don't really care for the new instruments (and there's still a lot I don't use in V8); but I'm considering the upgrade of the prophet (and maybe the CS 80); each upgrade is 49 eurodollars. I still think the old has a very nice and usable sound (specially with a bit of effects), and while I'm tempted I'm afraid it won't be night and day. Also nice to have a second LFO and some modulation options. I tend to use the jup 8 more and have done a lot of patches and tracks with it; but the prophet has a bit more grit and I think I miss that a bit in my jup 8 patches.
What did you think of the new prophet versus the old? (weird sentence out of context).

They are huge upgrades IMO. But I wouldn't buy them individually. It would cost $100 to upgrade the two of them. $200 gets you the full V-Collection upgrade at today's price. If you wait a little while, I'm sure the V-Collection upgrade will hit $149 - probably around Black Friday/Christmas. That's when I'd recommend pouncing and getting the full upgrade.
Also...can't you demo them? Would help you make an informed decision.

Big difference. Definitely worth the upgrade, but like Funkybot’s Evil Twin said, makes more sense to upgrade the full collection. Prophet VS, MS20 and CS80 are also really great.

you're right I'm gonna try the demo. I don't need the new instruments so I'll probably just buy the individual upgrade(s). also I don't use the CS 80 that much (still maybe worth a try). so I don't see the need to spend 200 or even 150 coins for the full upgrade. sadly the individual upgrades are rarely discounted; but I don't see the whole V9 upgrade going for 100 or less.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun May 29, 2022 4:08 pm They are huge upgrades IMO. Ok I tried the prophet demo and there's quite a difference. The new one is brighter and less muddy. a bit more alive I'd say (although some settings in the hidden panel introduce too much change). probably worth the upgrade. I feel like the filter behaves a bit differently. I'm probably gonna wait a bit as I don't absolutely need this right now (and I already have a few eurorack modules on my list). Maybe I should also explore more all the synths I barely tried (like the OBx; the matrix); I felt like there was a lot of redundancy in subtractive synths. will try the new CS 80 as well (but getting a 1:1 sound will be more challenging).

The problem I have with arturia V collection is the fact it's overwhelming. It's good to have a choice but there's too much of it. And the idea is probably not to use everything.zerocrossing wrote: Sun May 29, 2022 5:22 pm Big difference. I'm not sure having new sources of distraction will make my life (and music) better. There are a selection of instruments I use (like four or five); sometimes I try to explore synths I don't use much more; but I usually fold back on the few I know (jup 8; prophet; buchla; mellotron; pigments; a bit of CS 80 and synclavier, still have to use the rhodes and farfisa but I like them). I also tried augmented intro and it's not for me. So for now a 49 euros upgrade seems more reasonable than a 200 euros upgrade with things I'll barely use. May change my mind if there's a sale for 100 or less though but not likely. I also have the AAS CV-1 which sounds incredible and I've not really fully exploited (that LPG is the bomb though); and pigments has also a very interesting analog sound, just a bit less straightforward when you want to patch something super basic.
