Very excited about Novation making V-Station and other stuff freeware (despite i've got paid license,i'm happy, it's super news for producers on budget ).
I'M starting this topic to point what newbies can start using immediately for free, making music with PRO results (according to my taste):

Good starter for 10 list. Only thing I’d suggest is to keep suggestions at 64 bit as it’s 2022. I’d add variety of sound to the list (Bootsy) and definitely the Uh-e freebies 👍
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Looking at VELLTONE's list, I gotta admit that there's some serious firepower available these days for free... at least if I wasn't sure yet that this hobby is truely for me, and whether or not I want to sink hundreds of thousands of Euros in it, I'd rather install that stuff, and probably be done for the next few years.

Heck, even I considered going Cakewalk not long ago, as I got a bit sick of the "every 2 years an update where we tuck in stuff to justify people spending 150 € for the upgrade" thing. The issue I have with Cakewalk though is that I find it a bit crammed, bloated, and antiquated in terms of the included plugins. Studio One simply feels more fresh, modern and streamlined in comparison. And Cakewalk also only has limited support for Maeckie HUI protocol, which is used by my MIDI keyboard for some stuff.

Toneboosters is also providing all legacy v3 plugins for free: https://www.toneboosters.com/changelog.html (scroll down at the very bottom of the page).
VST2 and AU only, but there are some seriously good processors in there, I actually had paid versions and used them for years.

SoundBridge can also be added to the DAW category. It is lightweight and touchscreen-ready, supports Win and Mac, VST2 and VST3, has Elastique timestretch and overall seems pretty functional. The only thing is its UI not for everyone :)

Since their BBC - thing went completely free today and the other Labs stuff is also legit.

Good little synth once you turn the copious amounts of reverb down. :tu:
