ok so I'm trying to make this bassline patch but having a hard time getting the modulation which is creating the upper harmonics. I thought it was crossmod (available on diva) but it only gets me part of the way there.

use 2 oscillators or use 2 octaves with your midi notes with a basic saw + unison.
After that it's about setting he volume and filter envelope to taste(along with the resonance)

yeah it definitely does.

Needs a little eq and every synth will sound a bit different. Amount of voices used with unison changes the character quite a bit too.

thanks for putting up the preset. the tone is there but the modulation isn't, maybe listen again, there's a lot of upper harmonics that are making it both a bass and a lower midrange bass

Sounds like a ladder style filter with either a pulse width modulated OSC or a couple very lightly detuned squares over a square sub OSC. This sound is more pronounced when the filter gets opened up more later in the song. The oscillator could also be done with FM to get that sound but it doesn't sound much like it when the filter is opened up. It sounds mostly like someone is riding the cutoff and resonance and maybe envelope amount either manually or with automation. Every once in a while one of those notes really jumps out with much higher resonance. Once you get the main "body" of the sound together you might want to run it through a light distortion or saturation to generate some higher harmonics and a bit of intermodulation distortion.
Definitely try something that's got a Moog type 24dB/8ve filter. Then you'll need at least one pwm oscillator with a sub oscillator.
