Intel Core i9-12900HX - anyone tried it?

I'm interested in a laptop with this CPU (using Cubase), has anyone tried it in music production and can share from their experience?

Seems to be a great mobile CPU which is roughly on the level of the i5-12600K and i7-12700K desktop CPU's in terms of single core and multi core performance.

I didn't know that mobile CPUs fall behind desktop ones so much, so you have to pay much more and compromise on performance..

If you think about it, it makes sense. A mobile CPU will always be a trade of between battery life and performance. Battery life and cooling are a non issue in desktop PC's.

If you ask me, go for it. I would always favour a desktop for best bang for the buck.

Unless you have space constraints which prevent you from going that route, of course. Or, if you want to be mobile with your setup.

Yes I have to travel unfortunately so I checked about getting on planes with the desktop but it seems like a headache, so I think I should stick with the laptop for the next few years
Hopefully I will be able to use it as a slave maybe, when I get a desktop, with VEP

i7-12700H seems good bang for the buck atm.

That jump to i9 still has a premium and not huge performance jumps. Chips seem to be getting more cores, and not speeding up single processor so much.

Interesting, do you think the additional cores won't be helpful? I do know that with Diva and Repro you can take advantage of multicore with the multicore button, and these are synths I use a lot.
And Intel claims that single-core is around 15% faster in the HX, do you think it will still be negligible when used inside a DAW?

There's limited returns from more cores, as more communication is needed to schedule all the splitting and rejoining of processes.

You should get a bit more grunt out of the i9. But I was putting CPUs into CPU benchmark and, to me, it just didn't seem necessary for the past extra cost.

Yeah I see what you mean. I'm just afraid I won't have enough power, it's a shame there's no way to test your daily sessions on a few laptops and then decide, maybe I'll rent the i7 or the i9 not the hx and then see if it's enough

you dont seem to understand, that yesteryears premium desktops are todays laptops. Its an amazing cpu for a laptop and would be considered pretty much top of the line. I dont see how you ever could go wrong with it and youll be running straight over 1-2 year old i5s gaming desktops. So do you expect to change laptop every year or do you wanna keep it for a while?
youll be speeding for a long time if you intend to keep it.

I would also just go for it, if you don't have any budget limits or whatever. It looks like you want to be mobile, so, a desktop PC just won't fit. I'd just get a laptop with the HX then, as it seems to be about the best you can get in laptops at the moment.

That's unfortunately what the Mac guys don't get. Their M1 doesn't stand a chance against high end desktop CPU's. Obviously. But, "obvious" doesn't seem to be the Apple fans' forte.

Captain Obvious isn't a Mac user, that's for sure.

normally id agree but 12th gen have taken huge leaps. i bought the 10600k last year and while im happy with it, this laptop cpu runs over it;
