Subsequent 37 and Multi effects

I would like to add effects to my Subsequent 37.

I was thinking of taking Strymon Timeline and Bigsky, as well, Eventide Modfactor.

What do you think ?

What bothers me a bit is that only one effect is possible at a time for each module.

Just like for the H9 elsewhere.

A lot of people go through this phase, it seems. I went through this phase a while ago and bought a BigSky and Timeline to use with my h/w synths (Sub37, Slim Phatty, Minitaur, Pulse 2, Shruthi XT, etc.). The guy I bought the BigSky from had done the same thing and decided it was too much of a PITA. My experience was also that I found it to be a PITA and took up too much of my precious desktop real estate, so I sold them a month or so later and used the money to add more UAD effects to my Apollo X6 and Twin X, which made much more sense for my workflow and synth setup. Incidentally, the guy who bought my Timeline wanted it for the same reason, and then I saw it for sale a few weeks later.

I think it’s something that sounds great in theory, but then you realize how limited the workflow is, unless you like switching effects around all the time, have a patch bay, or maybe just own one hardware synth without effects. So, it might very well be a good approach for you if you only want to buy them for your Sub37. No doubt, they’re great sounding effects, but I personally found that I didn’t really use them for much beyond standard delay and reverb effects, so all that depth was wasted on me and it just wasn’t worth the effort or space.

I would suggest that you buy them used, since the going price seems to be very stable, so you can always resell them at little/no loss if you decide that they aren’t for you.

The Zoom MS-70CDR gets a lot of love as a small box with lots of effects options and chaining. Once set up with your own presets it is quite easy to scroll through them. Takes AA batteries as well!

I have both (Strymon) and like/use them a lot. I mostly use them as a send effect or an insert with a mixer, they are great effects, but yeah they are single effects. I don't get why anyone would expect them to be more than that. If you want multi-effects, get a multi-effect unit, the tradeoff there generally, will be in processing power. The other solution is to use multiple effects setup accordingly. That is what I do mostly, since I like effects and have many. I consider the Strymon stuff as workhorse effects pretty much, leaving the more exotic stuff for, well, more exotic stuff.

Indeed the Zoom is not bad and possibilities of chaining, which is not possible with Strymon (combining several reverbs and delays).

On the other hand, big advantages for Strymon, a good part of the parameter settings are on the front.

More possibilities to evolve the sound.

I intend to connect the Strymon so that I can use them with my hardware and my vst.

I have the strymon Nightsky and Volante, I use them for my guitar and Sub 37 and Grandmother. The nightsky has more than I will ever need in a reverb but it is beautiful sounding and I picked it up at good price and the Volante is just amazing. I use hem when I'm just sitting them playing separately, if in Cubase, I use VST effects, like Fabfilter Pro R nd Autaria Delay

Same here, I got an Empress echosystem to pair up with my system 8, it did sounded good but was more PITA than anything.

If you want to try some effects i would recommend getting something second hand and I would go with either boss rv500 or dd500, they are very deep, easy to edit and have all the important features and MIDI IO for sync, USB too and are not as expensive as strymon. IMHO those pedals have as good algorythms as any of the boutique brands.

I bought the Bigsky and the Timeline.

They are configured to be used with my hardware machines.

I'm really happy with it and it sounds really good.

The sound reproduction suits me perfectly.

Really beautiful machines.

I even plan to buy the Strymon Mobius and the Elektron Heat mk 2 soon.

In this way, I will have a range of hardware effects for my machines and I can even use it with my vst.
