anyone compared both Stepic and hy-seq32 sequencers?

There seems to be a bit of overlap with these two sequencers. I was wondering if anyone had some experience with both and could point out any significant differences between them

I have dicked around and there doesn't seem to be huge differences, so if you have one no need for the other

thanks for reporting back. I own the HY Seq bundle and HY-SEQ32 is the one i use most. Stepic piqued my curiosity but I couldn’t tell any big difference from SEQ32 by examining the Stepic feature list or watching the few vids on YT. Despite the complete lack of apparent differences I’m still tempted to add Stepic to my plug-in folder lol

Here's another review from maybe a bit of an other Angle. I also own most of HY-Sequencers and still finding Stepic interesting too, as it adds M4L to the table.

They actually differ. Own and often use both of them, depending on the mood.
While HY's have a fantastic mod architecture, atm only Stepic can do ... chords! Yeah, that's what we want sometimes (and you too!).
Love them all (notice the wonderful Seq-Family of HY has a lot of members).

The 1.5 update of Stepic has now made it my step sequencer of choice with the new 'Note-In'/'Note-In scale transform' features (described from 4m14s onwards):

does the VST version not work in ableton or something? on the website they seem to make a big deal of saying you have to get the M4L version for ableton Live support. seems silly.. unless i'm missing something.

If you buy the 'Ableton' version you get a max for live device which provides a way of the plugin to access many of the Ableton APIs/mappings ... whereas if get the generic one:dayjob wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:35 pm does the VST version not work in ableton or something? on the website they seem to make a big deal of saying you have to get the M4L version for ableton Live support. seems silly.. unless i'm missing something.
https://devicemeister.com/stepic/faq/... its functionality will be limited. You will not be able to automate Live devices or parameters such as Wavetable, Analog, Sampler, or any of Live's effects devices with Stepic's modulation sequencers. Further, Ableton Live does not pass all MIDI CC messages generated by Stepic, which also limits its support for 3rd-party plugins and external hardware devices. For this reason, Ableton Live is not listed as a compatible host for Stepic.
IIRC it used to be exclusively an M4L stepsequencer and has evolved into the VST version(s). I'd definitely recommend the Stepic for Live version if Ableton is your primary DAW as the m4l device means you don't have to faff around with channel/midi routings like with usual VST step sequencers.

I used the VST version of Stepic in Live when I just had Live standard and it worked fine. I didn't have any issue with automating CCs.dayjob wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:35 pm does the VST version not work in ableton or something? on the website they seem to make a big deal of saying you have to get the M4L version for ableton Live support. seems silly.. unless i'm missing something.
The main limitation/difference is that the Live version can directly automate Live parameters and has a M4L panel that allows you to switch between patterns.

it would be cool if the chord mode from the RPE euclidean mode found its way into the other sequencers. Though there is the harmonizer module (at least in seqcollection2, i dont have them all), where each pitch can be modulated. You can also sort of fake some chords using the note echo module with short delay times and pitch shifting the echo ... each pitch is relative to the previous so its basically stacking 3rds or 5ths or whatever, kinda chiptuney but it sorta works. combine with the note chance module for even more funelassi wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 4:56 pm

its not exactly "program your chords in and play them back in sequence" (like the rpe euclidean chord mode) but it's still fun for polyphonic generative stuff.

...something of a resurrected thread, but for anyone looking here for info on this (as I was): I did notice just now that HY-Seq32 does have I guess what I'd say was 'chord functionality' (i.e., am being tentative about what it can/can't do re chords, since I haven't fully explored it yet myself either via practice or by reading the manual).elassi wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 4:56 pm [...]

[...].
It's fairly easily overlookable - a narrow panel running along the bottom of the GUI has more features, including a menu on the far left to change tabs for other features. But the Chord option is on the first/default of those tabs.
