Do You Use A Glossy Or Matte Display For DAW Use ?

I don't believe I've seen this asked here before... but I thought it might be an interesting topic. I mean, did you ever think about that when you bought a laptop even ? In any case... would you choose differently if you had known that there were differences ? Perhaps music production isn't your primary focus and other activities you do on your computer are. Do you switch between monitors depending on what you use them for ?

Buy a glossy screen, and adjust how matte it is to your own liking

If your screen is too matte, compensate by modifying your eyeballs to match....

Nah, he'll definitely have reskinned them. They're probably now neon-purple-and-puce plans, with VR dancing videogame avatars.

not proper VR ones, obviously. mockups, as always.

Linus did a test to demonstrate the pros and cons in which different monitors are used. This is what prompted this thread to be created.

Is it even a thing? I just buy a monitor - big one, little one, medium one, long one, square one, Hi-D, Med-D or cheap shite. Apparently even round corners or square corners are a thing, but shiny or matte? What is the world coming to...

Well I sit with an LG IPS 24" (Matte Screen) with a Samsung 24" LED (A Reflective Screen). There is a significant difference. For productivity, I use the reflective screen, which is actually four years older than the other. I do find the reflective screen far sharper for my needs, which is important when viewing text in Studio One and cutting events/waveforms etc. For large mixes, I use the LG for the large mixer and video functions should I need it.kritikon wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 5:50 pm Is it even a thing? No, since at least 10 years Macbooks are delivered with screens that combine the advantages of both…
DAW or not doesn’t matter at all. Especially dark skins (I hate them) are a torture on a glossy monitor in light environments…
And who wants to sit all day in the dark…?

I googled first but didn't find anything ... what's a "philips hub light"?

I think he meant hue, not hub. These are "smart" (ahem) bulbs.
