Looking to subscribe to one of these two, I love how the slate stuff sounds but not to keen on paying indefinitely. Does the PA stuff compare quality wise?

Post

Have you tried the demos?

Post

PA easily compares qualitywise and in some cases outclasses Slate.

Post

Awesome, looking like PA is the way to go then :)

Yeah, just want some other opinions :)

Sign up for the PA “Forever 29” subscription before they end new signups at the end of this month. Then buy the plugins you actually use for $1 (one per month). You’ll be able to drop the subscription sooner or later.

This might be the best option most people. I don't see anyone using all those plugins.

I thought Forever 29 ended a couple days ago on the 15th??

Yeah, just checked and no new subs are being allowed. Is this something they open up every so often or was it just a one-off?

That is not really my definition of “forever”…
I am a bit miffed that they stopped that, there were a few plugins I had my eyes on, just couldn’t get around to starting the sub, because of summer… well, I just have to wait for the next sale, or BF.
Maybe it was a bit too successful and nobody was stupid enough to pay higher prices anymore, or the intro offers for new plugins, and that cut their revenue?

Post

Crap, I thought it was still open until the end of the month. Oh well.

I think Soundwide is trying to raise their revenues by tamping down on PA's sales. Vouchers now need a minimum purchase of $75 to use, instead of $32. Forever 29 is no longer open to new subscriptions and probably won't be again. The no-minimum sales vouchers where you could actually get the cheaper plugins for free are probably a thing of the past, too.

there is a sale on right now where (almost) any plugin is $29.99. That seems to be their new bottom price. Use voucher code: ANY-2999-2

Just demo and find out, both give you lots of plugins, but PA do not have good reverbs, delays and VSTi imo

I’ve built up a complete collection of Plugin Alliance plugins through their sales - and now the Forever sub - plus vouchers over the years which I think is the best way to go. They seem to have constant 29.99 sales or special offers. Unfortunately the Forever sub is no more for anyone wanting to get in now:(
The Slate sub is great value for money and is constantly expanding.
As for their products... I find Slate generally has a ‘sound’ which I find errs slightly towards the more digital end of the analog spectrum. Still great if that’s what you are looking for.
Plugin Alliance - bare in mind that there are different developers in their roster - I find err slightly more towards a warmer sound generally than the Slate plugins.
It’s a very vague and non scientific description I know and very subjective but that’s been my opinion for a while now.
With the Slate sub - at a very reasonable price - you get fantastic product immediately, as you do with the PA sub. In the end it’s a matter of personal preference... why don’t you sub both for a month and see which of these two great companies you prefer?
