Studio one, overdub and hear previous recoridng

Hi,

Earlier today, I was able to record a piece, then go to the start and select 'record' and it would play the original recording so I could hear it, and then I could play over the top.

But now anytime I record over an existing audio clip, it mutes it. How do I not have it muted?
