Not keen on the headstock design, a possible breakage area. On the plus, low price includes UK delivery, Alder body and about the correct weight for a real Strat. Might make a decent mod project.



A traditionally styled standard electric guitar with an H-S-S pickup configuration. The 22 fret maple neck with kabukalli fingerboard is bolted to the contoured alder body. The bridge has a vintage-styled vibrato system and controls consist of 2 tones and a master volume with a 5-way lever selector. The humbucking pickup in the bridge position is especially suited to high gain rock and blues genres, whilst the middle and neck single coils provide a wide palette of tone colours to choose from.

If you're in the market for a LP, T or S-style guitar on budget, Ivor Mairants (Leeds UK) have some b-stock Vintage branded guitars with slight cosmetic flaws. £199 - £265

I asked about theses flaws and they could be runs in the lacquer or dips in the paintwork, minor really. They above entry level and use premium Wilkinson parts. They have a reduction of around 50%, cheaper than second-hand.

I got a Laney LC30 -112 MKII around 5 years ago from Cash Generator ( a UK pawn shop chain) for £119 - I got some new valve sockets to maintain it, still got to replace the old ones. It has plenty of headroom, nice cleans and gritty overdrive. A no-brainer at that price, just a ball-ache getting it home on public transport, well worth it.

Laneys can be quite good. Had a LC15 (?maybe - nice) and a modded Cub 10 (just ok) over the yrs.
Are tube sockets hard to replace btw?

Rw that ‘broken’ Laney VC30 in my link..I was thinking contact cleaner/ a new pot might fix it up (?) not done amp repairs like that yet tbh.

Pawnshops are great as staff can be clueless
got a cheap strat w 3 x proper exe Duncan pickups for $100.. plus an old ‘broken’ Russian Big Muff for $50 w just a loose wire on the battery pad whoop!

I see Buddha amp heads going reasonable cheap 2nd hand here in Aus ($700 ish) interestingly. Pretty sure they would’ve been $2K + new.

DeAngelicos ..that’s a whole range there Ive never heard of..
Makes me wonder what happens all the new ranges that ‘bomb’ on the market? They can only sell them off so low. And then…?

Eg Yamaha Revstar series, the new Guilds and new Eastwood line. Not selling afaics.

Be shit to be in the guitar sales business tbh so much competition it’s ridiculous. With the likes of EART MiC selling for $300 with SS frets and roasted necks.. ‘Artist guitars’ (shit) is an Aussie company flooding the market here $300-$400 w online sales only, everyone is buying them. And then there’s Harley Benton who are massive now.
