What do you recommend? Affordable, say upto £300. I like XoX style but also i like glitchy IDM madness.

I always liked my SR16 and DR660, but rarely use them these days (I did sample them tho)

Behringer 909? Probably not quite so good at glitchy IDM madness, but if you midi sequence it madly enough I guess it's possible. Everyone deserves a real 909 at some time in their lives. You know you want it...

I have no place with how I work for drum machines nowadays, but I have been exercising immense self control to stop myself buying one of these. The nostalgia is strong. Got a TD3, MC202, ABL3 and now a Phoscyon 2 and the urge to make squelches along with a hands-on 909 is immensely tempting.

Yeah, totally agree. The DrumBrute Impact is a beast at a great price if you want analog drums.

Elektron Model Cycles or Samples are both great and probably better for glitchiness. Also, they will give you the itch for other Elektron machines, so you'll soon find yourself with a Digitakt, Syntakt, Analog RYTM mk2, Analog Four mk2, and Digitone, so that's another plus (except for your bank account).

Finally, the Novation Circuit machines seem to be a great option, but I've never owned or used either of them. I almost traded for one recently, so I gave them a pretty good look and they both looked very intuitive and powerful, but I decided to pass, since I'm more than happy with my Elektrons.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the good old Electribes yet...
The old ESX1 is a lot of fun, easy to use (and not so bad for IDM and somewhat glitchy stuff). I've heard mixed things about the ESX2, but if the workflow seems more tedious, the specifications are quite great.

+ for the Elektrons, they are outstanding.

Never seen this, been out a while too. Seen the drumbrute, but wasn't that keen. Have to look into this, price is right

What about the TR-6S for the OP?

Otherwise I do agree, Model Samples and Model Cycles would cover plenty of ground.

Model Samples might be better to pick over Cycles because you can load XoX samples. Elektrons still have my favorite sequencer (but I also don’t know the Arturia stuff either).

Yeah, I traded a controller for one and had it for a short time, but sold it pretty quickly. It sounds good, but was pretty limited and the lack of song mode was a dealbreaker for me. That said, I’d still recommend it for a portable drum machine that sounds pretty great and is simple to use, but I wouldn’t recommend it over the Elektrons.

The Impact has really nice sounds with discreat outputs if you want to use them. The killer feature is the sequencer. If you get another drum machine you can use that sequencer to get the most out of the other drum machines that you pick up down the road.
