I just got this CD in a 3 pack along with the terminalhead vol 1 CD. I recorded a drum track and then ran it through the acoustic drums sampletank patches and at first it didn't come playback. I then moved my midi drums up one octave on my controller and now it played the drums fine. So, that got me wondering if there is a standard for what notes on a keyboard represent what drums and if the acoustic drums samples stick to this standard? I just ordered Kontakt too and so I'm hoping that their kick / snare mapping is the same as sampletanks. I'd hate to have 2 midi drum tracks so I could switch between the two samplers. Thanks.

I don't think TerminalHead follows standard drum mappings (but I could be wrong).

The Acoustic Drums eRom has patches with "iMap" mapping. iMap is based on GM (which is the most common drum mapping), but with some differences to allow for more hits and articulations, and to make it more fun to play live. One of the differences is that the kit is an octave higher than GM. The toms are an octave higher still.

The kits that come with Kontakt are probably GM, so you might have to do a bit of fiddling to get them to be compatible.

Depending on how you work, you might find that instead of switching between different sample sets, a better alternative could be to choose a kit in SampleTank that is close to what you want, then edit it and change effects to get it to sound best for your music.

If you've got any versions of SampleTank2, then you've got access to the T-RackS effects algorithms (tube-modelled eq, compression, and limiting!) that sound great on drumkits.

Forever,

Kim.
